Plasan Sasa wins US Marine project

The local armor company bid against nine of the world's leading companies. Wins $200 million order for supplying US Marine Corp with explosive-proof vehicles

The Plasan Sasa armor protection manufacturing company, located in Kibbutz Sasa near the Israel-Lebanon border, won an international bid to be the sub-contractor in a vehicle re-armament project for the US Marine Corp.

Plasan, which employs 430 workers, bid against nine other of the world's leading armament companies, and is to receive $200 million of the $623 million project.

These funds are part of a larger $8 billion project to provide resistant ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles for the Marine Corp and other US army Forces.

Palsan, headed by General (Res.) Amos Malka, is to provide 1,200 MRAP vehicles, which would be explosive-anti-tank missiles-artillery-proof.

The company finished 2006 with $180 million in sales, 97 percent of which went to export, making it the third-most profitable company in the kibbutz movement.
