This weekend I will download a pic I took on the way to work that same day. There was a contrail that was giong straight up. You can see other contrails across the sky in the pic. I took the pic in and showed my coworkers. It was impossible to see what was causing the contrail, and I couldn't figure out why an airplane was going straight up unless it was a high performance take off of some kind. But from Barkley Regional airport in Paducah Kentucky????

So, I was very surprised to see this article about a straight up contrail.

Maybe figure out the trajectory and figure out where it landed...
That's not really possible without knowing what kind of missle it was...

After viewing the footage again, it does look like it could very well be an airplane and the contrail has been distorted by the angle the camera shot it at along with wind dispersion.
If its a plane, thats even worse. We track EVERY plane on radar. If we had an unidentified plane on radar, we would have fighter jets on it in minutes. I can only assume this is something top secret, or the military so rediculously incompetent. You can also see pretty bright light at the creation of the smoke trail. It would have to be a huge plane to shine like that.

I haven't seen the actual video. Just stills. If it's a missile, going mosty up, it would be pretty clear in real time - they go fast. A plane could definitely produce a contrail that looked like that from the right angle, but it would be much slower and fairly obvious if you were watching it for more than minute or so.

The Air Forces methodology.

If the Chinese were to test fire a missile off our coast, why would an administration who wants to suck up to the Chinese tell us.

Now I suppose if we were to call the Chinese on it, they could give us a sheepish grin, saying they didn't want to spook us by firing a missile at us from their local waters, so they fired one away from us our waters.

This is why we need missile defense.

And if it was a pane, which i strongly suspect it was, would your missile defense have shot it down?

As a wise man once said:

I think that people know far more than they are telling.

There could be a number of reasons for doing just that... not the least of which would be not telling "those folks" what it is we really know.
You bet your ass that someone inside our government knows full well what it was.

As someone else might have said...

"Well that's the real question, isn't it? Why? The how and the who is just scenery for the public. China, a missile, airplane, submarine... Keeps 'em guessing like some kind of parlor game, prevents 'em from asking the most important question, why? Who benefited? Who has the power to cover it up? Who? "

There is no reason to suspect a slower target couldn't be hit with it.

But it's important to note that we don't have SAM batteries around population centers anymore either.

Even people outside the government know what it was. An airplane.

If that were the case, you'd think someone would have taken credit by now. This is California after all.

Taken credit for what? Figuring out it was an airplane wasn't a one person discovery. Also, even the government now supports the airplane explanation:

Seems to be...

FoxNews.com - Blogger Believes Webcam Image Solves 'Missile' Mystery

A blogger reckons he may have solved the mystery over the vapor trail spotted off the southern coast of California on Monday.

On his blog "Time to Think," Liem Bahneman on Wednesday pinpointed America West Flight 808 as the likely cause -- backing up an explanation offered by a senior military official to Fox News Channel that the contrail caught on video by a news helicopter “was more likely caused by an airplane than anything else."

Bahneman wonders if he is the first to call it: "I did a lot of extrapolation of what flights could be at the right position (off the coast) at the right altitude (for contrail formation) and came down to two possibilities: UPS Flight 902 (UPS902) or America West Flight 808 (AWE808)."

He concluded: "As I was researching tonight (24 hours later), I realized that today's (Tuesday's) AWE808 current position (at around 4:50 p.m.) was almost the same as it was the day of the incident. I quickly pulled up a Newport Beach webcam and found that (apparently) AWE808 was making an identical contrail, 24 hours later!"

I think one of the biggest pieces of evidence is that there were zero eye witnesses outside of the video tape. You'd think at least one person would notice a huge missile launching just off the coast.

Good god gurdy. It was the contrail of a jet airplane. Taken from a certain angle that made it look like it was going straight up. The lack of info made many think it was a missle. To be expected in times that we find ourselves in.

If it was a plane, it should be simple to identify for the FAA. Ochams razor indicates this is not the simplest explanation.

Occam's razor dictates it's an airplane. If something that leaves a contrail is spotted in an area where planes travel and leave contrails, it's safe to assume that it's an airplane.

Besides, a missile would be even easier to detect by the FAA and they didn't find anything.

If it was a missle, theyd cover it up by calling it a plane. If its a plane, it should be easy for the FAA to confirm. If its a plane, why did the DoD spend 36 hours investigating? It would take one call to the FAA.
