Default Pentagon has no idea who launched missile
So the big news this morning was that a missile was launched off the coast of California this morning. It was, apparently, very pretty and spectacular to behold. Unfortunately, it also seems that nobody knows who launched the doggone thing.

California missile launch remains a mystery

Well....uh.....gee!....

Holy hopping horn toads! Whaddaya mean "so far, we've come up empty with any explanation"? A missile...not a model rocket...blasted off from an area north of Catalina Island and West of LA....in the ocean...and you don't know who did it? THAT is a pretty doggone big problem!

If it was a US military launch, even an accidental one, that's one thing. If it's a private company doing a little testing of a new toy that would be "interesting" and it would sure be nice if they let somebody know the next time they conducted such a test. If, however, it was a launch by a foreign military.....

Ugh! I hate to see idiotic statements made by professional politicians that wear the military uniform. These people are suppose to be among the brightest we have and our top level leadership. How does that represent the rest of us?

"We don't know who launched it. We don't know what the goal of the laucher was. We don't know what the capabilities of the missile were. In reality, we don't know anything about it, at all. But we are positive that this represented no threat to the US!"

Give me a break.

Why be concerned? What damage could one little missile do?

Too true! What ever happened to the good old "We are unable to comment on this incident at this time." At least that's better than "We don't have a clue".

I read one article that speculated that this may have been a launch by an "enthusiast". That would be some pretty special "enthusiasm" to build and successfully launch something the size of a Trident from 35 miles out to sea....undetected...and still unidentified.

At this point I hope it turns out to be an accident from a US source 'cause if it turns out to be the NorK's or Chinese....or Venezuelans.

I wonder what the chances are for the missile to be recovered? Maybe figure out the trajectory and figure out where it landed. That'd probably help, but it could also be confetti at the bottom of the ocean for all I know...

Crazy shit. Watched the video this morning and that would have to be one helluva enthusiastic enthusiast.

People think it may be a show if military might while Obama is in Asia.. kinda like we used to do when Reagan traveled during the cold war.

What if it was instead a show of might by China or Nk while Obama was in asia.....

I think that people know far more than they are telling.

There could be a number of reasons for doing just that... not the least of which would be not telling "those folks" what it is we really know.

From the looks of things they'd be leaving, not invading.

A seaborne launch of an unidentified and as of this post unexplained missile off the coast of california:

BBC News - Mystery missile launch reported off California coast

So is it a test of weapons system, an accident or a power-play by unknown parties?

I hope it's a weapons test myself.

After viewing the footage again, it does look like it could very well be an airplane and the contrail has been distorted by the angle the camera shot it at along with wind dispersion.

Ok, now we just need a gumshoe reporter to sneak up the NORAD laundry chute and tell us what color the pants are...
