The debate over whether to send as many as 40,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan is a major element of a strategy overhaul that senior administration policy advisers will consider this week as they gather for top-level meetings on the evolving direction of the war.

Obama has invited a bipartisan group of congressional leaders to the White House on Tuesday to confer about the war. He said the administration would brief leaders from both parties and key committee chairmen and would seek their opinions.

"They're an important part of this and the president wants to hear from them," Gibbs said.

No one is discussion immediate troop withdrawals in any serious manner. That's a phantom menace you've conjured up. The discussion is whether to increase current troop levels in Afghanistan. I'm glad I could step in to assuage your fears.

Capital HIll micromanagement gave us failure in Vietnam and prezbo has decided to pull that chestnut back for another go.

He can't change out generals like Lincoln did till h gets one he likes so just ignore them and let Congress to do whatever they feel like.

No, that is most definitely not what caused the failure in VN.

With any luck, when a Nixon wannabe (R) gets into the WH we can leave Afghanistan properly; and achieve peace with honor.

Huh? I made an observation, so "oh for two" doesn't even make sense...

Leaving VN worked out wonderfully for Vietnam. What's the problem?

Can't say I supporte the entry into conflict (protecting Lady Bird's rubber tree plantations) but if you're going to fight, you fight to win.

That's how we won WWII. And it's how the North won the Civil War. Most WWII vets are pretty old today, but I suspect most of them could still kick your butt.

So in you narrow little world, Vietnam was as justified a war as WWII? wow, that's a fucking idiotic suggestion.

I don't believe that fighting communism is ever a lost cause. Nonetheless, I don't believe I brought up Vietnam. I believe I suggested that your implication that WWII vets were cowards was pretty asinine.

I never suggested anything of the sort.

Do you believe that murdering entire villages of defenseless people both from the ground and the air (who posed absolutely no threat to america) is wrong?
