At this it looks like the US is going to vote along with everyone anyway. So I would tell the administration to forget it. There's no more Oslo.

This is not really a UDI by the way, the Palestinians already declared their independence unilaterally in 1988 which had no real effect. It's not really clear to me what they're hoping to achieve with this UN recognition or declaration or whatever it is, we'll have to see what the actual wording of the resolution(s) is...

As for maintaining Oslo, this kind of predetermining of the final status issues by going around Israel rather than negotiating is incompatible with the spirit and the letter of the Oslo Accords. Maintaining it would be a farce, there's certainly a strong case for Israel being within its rights to terminate the accords if the PA goes ahead with this.
Whether that would be wise or not is another matter. I'm not sure what terminating the accords would mean - a return to direct military rule over the entire WB? |

If the "Palestinians" unilaterally "declare" a state in the West Bank and Gaza, there are no more Oslo Accords. Period. They have, in effect, torn them up. So no more electricity from Israel, no more trotting over to the hospital in Ashkelon to give birth to your baby, no more water. They didn't want to negotiate like every other wannabe country in the world, fine. They're on their own, OR SHOULD BE. They have gotten billions of dollars, and have built some lovely apartment buildings and mosques, but still maintain the refugees in camps? THEIR PROBLEM, because it's THEIR STATE.
Any country who gives them any more money is an idiot. Are they sitting on oil? Diamonds? Not even former "Palestinains" agreed to move to the West Bank or Gaza to open a branch of their successful American, French, or English enterprises. They saw what a cesspool of corruption it is. As you can see, I am NOT for a "two-state solution".... and the time for negotiation is past, since the "Palestinians" have refused every Israeli offer, and just insist on their demands to take over the whole sovereign state of Israel.... |
