Personally I find both of those last two images to be mildly intriguing -- but completely unclear in what they are saying. No date on the first one, so don't know if it's candidate or president Obama. If it's recent, then McCain represents the GOP and the issue may be the stimulus package. But I think it's about the November elections. So you have the big Bugs Bunny and the little Elmer Fudd. The ax he's having trouble dragging along could be the Bush administration. The second one is about the changing US policy toward Iran. The little mouse is Ahmadinejad being coaxed out of his hole by a fellow mouse (but a really big one). And lurking behind is the cat, ready to pounce. But on who? |

Yeah, I get who the players are -- but don't know what the cartoons are saying. Cartoonist Steve Bell doesn't use captions (or so a search of him seems to indicate) so the image MUST tell the story for it to be effective. Maybe the Brits get it (he's published in UK's Guardian).
The axe: Did Elmer / McCain just chop down the cherry tree or what? Who knows. Who can tell? And it seems the little mouse Ahmadinejad is being coaxed by what is clearly a big RAT Obama (no way is that a mouse tail). Until you mentioned it I couldn't see that HC was supposed to be a cat -- thought she was a fluffy white rat. ![]() Lack of clarity in message abounds in these two images. |

Do the cartoons have titles, or associated with news events?
The other message in the first one may be the choice presented by the cool, resourceful Bugs and the bumbling Elmer, magnified by their distorted relative size. Maybe The UK message to the US is that the choice is obvious. I missed the tail and saw both rodents as mice propbably because of the mousehole. Maybe they're both rats. But I think the message is - "As one rodent to another, I'm not a threat, come on out." From Ahmadinejad's point of view, the very size of Obama is a threat. The cat is a clear threat (remember candidate Clinton discussed a nuclear option against Iran), but why is the cat focused on Obama? Maybe that's why the little rodent is scratching his head. |

WTF ^ ??? The second one I have no clue what he is saying. That somehow Obama resembles a rat so therefore he is more likely to get Amenidinijhad(???) to trust him so Hillary can pounce on him? The second is very confused. And GT, GJ!!!! Insult a mod directly when talking about a political post. ![]() |
