Default USAFA: Cadets for Christ
Mikey Weistein, USAFA graduate and founder of Military Religious Freedom Foundation said,"... it's time for a legitimate investigation of the 'fundamentalist culture' in the academy."

"Underground" Group of Cadets Say Air Force Academy Controlled by Evangelicals

Thursday 30 September 2010
by: Mike Ludwig, t r u t h o u t | Report

(Photo: tab2space)
An anonymous cadet at the US Air Force Academy (USAFA ) spoke out against alleged religious discrimination at the school last week, saying that some cadets must pretend to be evangelical Christians in order to maintain standing among their peers and superiors. In an email to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), the whistleblower stated that he is part of an "underground group" of about 100 cadets who cannot rely on proper channels to confront evangelical pressure. [read the rest...]

Also from the article:

...353 cadets (almost 1 out of every 5 survey participants) reported having been subjected to unwanted religious proselytizing, and 23 cadets (13 of them Christians) reported living 'in fear of their physical safety' because of their religious beliefs," according to the MRFF.

The world will be a much better place when people learn to keep their beliefs in the supernatural to themselves.

If this is true, it needs to be fixed. Ones faith should not cast a bearing on their career.

Didn't plan to weigh in on this one but I live in Utah and as a non-Mormon I have had to put up with similar religious pressure for 32 years. I am not amused by this because I know how much it hurt my son as he grew up to gradually be excluded from groups of kids that he played with since elementary school. The unspoken rule was that the Mormon kids were discouraged from playing with the non-Mormon kids and in our neighborhood the M's outnumbered the non-M's. I'm still sore about it to this day and my son is 23.

When these evangelical Air Force cadets graduate from the Academy they will have a hard time functioning in the real world where few people will tolerate their religious bias. They will themselves face bias and ridicule and they will deserve it. Here in Utah, some of the most devout Mormons have difficulty working with people who do not share their religious views. I am still considered a pariah by some of the people in my neighborhood and I have been here nearly twenty years. Like I give a damn what they think of me.

I may be wrong, but that photo looks like ROTC Cadets and their leader not AFA Cadets.

according to the photo credit, it's supposed to be 'cadets' at the fiske planetarium at CU Boulder. I think the civilian photographer doesn't know a cadet from a ROTC student.

"Ok, now I want you all to hold hands, bow you head, and say a prayer. No pressure here, I know I'm only your Wing Commander but I just want you to feel comfortable with the Lord!"**

**conclusion of a weekly wing staff meeting at tanker wing. Commander was AFA graduate and Ultra-Protestant

The Air Force and the military need to go back to basics....apolitical and areligious. I think the recruiters for the AFA and the AF are the worst ever. They need to tell the truth to their prospects about the AF's corruption, favoritism, embedded nepotism, and radical religious and right-wing political nuts. Schwartz needs to fire about 200 of his generals, colonels and SES's.

Trust me, nobody is suprised that you don't.

Thunderhorse follows a distinct pattern: any given problem stems from either george bush, the gop, or offut afb leadership or sometimes a combination of the three.

Listen pequeño hombre, "The Offutt Conspiracy" which has all these 9/11 conspiracies nuts thinking that Bush, and the Buffet Golf Tournament, which supposedly being attended by the top ranking CEO's and military officials plus the coincidence of Global Guardian being held at the location was the reason for the attack should some correlation to religion in the military is really enlightening.

Enlighten me smart guy, for a 27 year old, you seem to always have the answers and the smart mouth, the acidic wit, I'm surprised you haven't been found behind some alley with extra ventilation. Oh hell, you're still young one day you'll open your mouth and when your least expecting it. It never fails......My only regret is I won't be there to take pictures to post later.

It doesn't shock me that you would think that. Pretty much par for the course.

Holy crap! It NEVER fails that people get shot in alleys for being smart-asses? Like, EVER? I guess a huge portion of this forum needs to make sure their wills are in order, and avoid alleys like they're the damned plague.

This is a prime example of the attack on values by the lunatic fringe left.

A small militant minority destroying the nation's moral and ethical stature.

There will be another revolution in the future.
