The BBC has just reported the death of Pope Shenouda III. I met him once, with Bishop Irenaeos; we talked for about an hour, and he gave me signed copies of his books. I remember him as a gentle and loving man. May God receive his soul into His kingdom.

We have several Coptic people locally, who come to our services occasionally, and I know his former secretary Bishop Angaelos. He was much loved.
He was the first Coptic Pope to go to Rome to meet the Roman Pope since Chalcedon.
