When we bless cars, houses, animals, etc the blessing is received by ourselves for God-pleasing use of these things. Fr David Moser |

This is not how the blessing is worded in the trebnik. The prayers say "O Lord, bless this (thing) ..." or "This (thing) is blessed by the sprinkling of holy water..." They do not say "bless your servant N as he uses this (thing)" or "bless the use of this (thing) by your servant N" The prayers and blessings are quite specific that the thing itself (whether it be animal, house, barn, car, whatever) is blessed. |

Thank you for this correction. But is it not corect to say that the things are still blessed for our use? Not in their own right. I don't have a trebnik at hand, but just recalling the service of Great blessing of the water, that text indicates that the waters are blessed for our partaking of them, sprinkling of houses, etc, etc. In the Lord, Yura |

but I do think that you are moving close to the Lutheran position on the Eucharist - Christ is present in the elements during the sacrament (when they are being used), but then afterward (when they are not being used) they revert to simple bread and wine. This is not the case with the sacraments nor with blessings. |
