Yes, indeed times have changed.
But we do also now have The Nativity film, which looks really good, and we have had The Passion of Christ not so long ago. These are quality films that do have something of value to contribute to the spirituality of the year, and local evangelical Churches here in town have certainly used them. And there was Narnia this year, another useful talking point. And certainly at this time of year, despite the TV, there is an increasing level of Church attendance which Orthodox - especially on the western Calendar can take advantage of. So I am not so dispirited. I don't like the Vicar of Dibley, I find it rather blasphemous - and I am not generally so bothered by things like that if they are not Christian. But this is almost an insiduous corruption. Having a vicar sleeping with people, representing Jesus as a very weak figure, not really showing faith at all. I don't like it, though bits are funny. Sorry to those who do like it - I am not dogmatic about it. :-) At the moment we are watching "101 Dalmatians", which is a good, wholesome, family film. So I am not sure that is a bad thing, even if Charlton Heston is missing from the schedules. Peter |
