Default Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God returns to Russia
I had the wonderful experience of attending several of the services at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago and venerating the Tikhvin Icon. I couldn't help thinking that I was venerating an icon painted by the Apostle Luke.

I spoke with the BBC reporter who advised me that he is following the icon on it's journey home. He mentioned that a video tape or DVD should be available within a few months. The services in Chicago had been mostly in English with a bit of Slavonic and Greek.

I could not find the video link, perhaps it was just for the live broadcast. Here is a link with still pictures you can click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Someone on one of our church lists provided a link to the Vigil as the Tikhvin Icon was received by Patriarch Alexei today. This ocurred at the Christ the Saviour Cathedral. As it happened when I got up this morning I went to the link and watched the Vigil - it took me awhile to realise I was watching the service live which in itself added something special to the experience. (I guess Moscow time works out perfectly with early morning here). It is hard to describe. To turn on your computer and see this wonderful Icon being received back to Russia! The service lasted about 3 1/2 hours or so. Quite amazing.

Dear Mary,
The link was:http://212.111.66.210/trans/
This is for Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow. Unfortunately this evening the page had already changed from this morning; a rapid search thru the archives & I was unable to find the Vigil- maybe someone else would have more success. There are however many things of interest on this site- but all in Russian.
