GERMANY booted Greece out of Euro 2012

Jubilant Chancellor Angela Merkel saw her country’s footballers thrash their
Euro 2012 quarter-final opponents in Poland.

Their 4-2 romp, which set up a possible semi-final clash with England, sent Greece
packing from the tournament — as Europe’s politicians battled to keep the broke
nation in the single currency after months of turmoil.

It looked hopeful for Greece when they grabbed a surprise equaliser after Germany
led at half-time.

But the Germans soon struck back with three goals before Greece managed a late
consolation strike.

German fans rubbed it in by chanting: “We paid for your tickets.”
