New Straits Times Saturday, Mar 17, 2012 KUALA LUMPUR - Pimps who used the dark alleys and walkways to ply their trade have now resorted to cyberspace. The services of women from China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines are being advertised on their websites. The syndicates who offer these services have also placed the disclaimer saying that the rates charged were for companionship only. "We are not responsible for anything else that happens between two consenting adults," it said. One such website offers the services of Chinese, Thai and Indonesian "girlfriends" at RM150 (S$62) an hour. The contact number of the pimp or agent, who boasts of being in the business in the city for the past 10 years, is boldly displayed on the website. All a customer has to do is call the number and several women will be sent to his hotel room to choose from. A police source said many women had been duped into coming here with the hope of securing jobs as maids or salespersons, only to find themselves at the mercy of the syndicates. "The syndicate members hold the passports of the victims and force them to service men until they have paid off their debts (cost to bring the women here). "The women only get about 10 per cent of the money paid by their customers, meaning they have to carry on with their activities for months to pay back their debts." |
