Boy, 16, held for extortion

BALIK PULAU: A 16-year-old school dropout, a member of a gang that demanded RM500 protection money from business operators in Batu Maung and Bayan Lepas, has been arrested.

Balik Pulau Deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Lai Fah Hin said a businessman lodged a police report on Wednesday that the boy, who was nabbed in Batu Maung at 2.30am yesterday, had tried to extort RM500 from him.

The boy has been remanded until tomorrow to assist in police investigations.

“The owner said the youth told him that he was from the K24 gang,” he told a press conference yesterday.
