Monday November 15, 2010 Eight teenage girls held over beating By Nigel Edgar nigeledgar@thestar.com.my KUCHING: Eight female secondary school students were detained in connection with the beating of a female schoolmate. The girls, ages 16 to 17, were rounded up in a police operation from 11.30pm to 1am at their homes in Kampung Gita here yesterday. Their 16-year-old female schoolmate was beaten unconscious outside the school grounds on Thursday after she was accused of being conceited and a show-off. Kuching district police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong told The Star that statements from the eight girls were recorded and they were released at around 8am yesterday. “Investigation under Section 147 for student offences is nearing completion,” he said. At 11.30am on Thursday, the victim from Taman Sri Wangi in Petra Jaya was approached by a group of female schoolmates after she had gone to the school to return her loaned textbooks as she was allowed to return home early as it was the last day of the school term. She was said to have been ambushed outside the school grounds in Semerah Padi and was beaten up and left on the ground unconscious. A friend who happened to pass by took her home before contacting the victim’s sister. She suffered bruises to the head and body and was rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital. |
