Default Rome in danger ? Possible earthquake tomorrow ? People are leaving the city!
Rome in danger ? Possible earthquake tomorrow ? People are leaving the city!

Twitter

An earthquake allegedly predicted to happen on May 11 by a famous astronomer, Raffaele Bendandi, has already made the citizens of Rome to leave town. They are using all possible reasons to leave Rome, even if the national tv and civil protection agencies are saying that earthquakes cannot be exactly predicted.

For months the Italian Internet information flow is talking about the devastating earthquake astronomer Raffaele Bendandi predicted on May 11. Bendandi, who died in 1979, also predicted the 1923 earthquake. Bendandi was decorated by fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, and his theory was that earthquakes are the result of planets movements, moon and sun, and this is why they are perfectly predictable.

Astronomy has nothing to do with earthquakes.

One would think this would happen on, say, May 21st!

Earthquake fever hits Rome as some fear the big one | Reuters

Yup....probably too much Internet hype...or maybe a reason to stay away from work : According to some media reports, as many as 18 percent of city employees called in sick and Rome's notorious traffic did appear lighter than normal for a Wednesday in May.

however give it a two days extension :

Bendandi, who died in 1979 at the age of 86, believed earthquakes were the result of the combined movements of the planets, the moon and the sun and were perfectly predictable.

In 1923 he forecast a quake would hit the central Adriatic region of the Marches on January 2 the following year. He was wrong by two days but nearly precise prediction won him the nickname "earthquake predictor" in the media.

You "rest your case" after predicting an earthquake that didn't happen?

So he was wrong in the past too, what kind of tool believes this crap?

Earthquakes are faultlines moving, nothing to do with celestial bodies.

Don't let them fool you....earthquakes happen when all the Chinese jump up and down at the same time.

Hey, just because YHWH created the Earth, and is omniscient doesn't mean he knows geography.

This just came in via Dr. Boris Behncke (on Twitter) -

after some signs such as increasing seismicity that activity was about to start on Etna, sure enough, the volcano has begun to erupt again (see below). The volcano has been sputtering earlier in the week with abundant steam/ash plumes and some strombolian explosions (top left) in the southeast pit crater. You can check out the Etna webcams to glimpse the action. Look for updates on the activity at the Etna Observatory.

New eruption started at Etna in Italy (May 11, 2011) | Eruptions | Big Think

I'm willing to give the big guy a pass on his geography, I mean even the magnetic poles shift like 25 miles a year, (which freaks me a little) how do you keep track?

All of this reminds me of the George Carlin bit:

"You have to stay in shape. My mother started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 now and we have no idea where she is."

Rome is still there.

From the article:
However Paola Lagorio, the president of an organization dedicated to Bendandi and which preserves all his manuscripts, denied that the forecast originated from the self-taught astronomer and seismologist who died in 1979 aged 86.

"His manuscripts make no mention to any earthquake in Rome on May 11, 2011," Lagorio said.

The minor quakes that did occur in northern Italy are normal for a seismic prone country.
Bolding is mine.

I still don't get why people want these disasters to happen and then have the audacity to call themselves good Christians. I wasn't raised to believe in the Bible and I don't wish death on anyone; especially for their beliefs or lack thereof. I guess I'm going to hell.
