I think the FBI was trying to trick this guy into admitting where Holloway's body was dumped. It may have backfired if Van der Sloot used the money to travel to Peru.

But, maybe there's still leverage to get him to fess up. There may be hope for a prosecution in the Holloway case yet.

Ok, call me what you will, but in cases like this and terrorism cases, I am not opposed to strapping this guy down and shooting him up with sodium pentothal to get the info needed.

Yes, some may say this tecnique doesn't work. But what the hell? Give it a shot. The info wouldn't stand up in court- no doubt. But at least the mother--and the entire country-- would know what exactly happened to Natalie Holloway and finally have some peace.

There is a prison in Peru in the high desert called Larri Ganchos. Built to accommodate 3,000 men, it now houses over 10,000. There are only a few guards; there is not enough money to hire more. They are placed in various strategic and generally safe areas outside the main prison. The actual security within is maintained by prisoners sanctioned by the administration called the Council of Inmate Leaders; yet each dorm or block or pavilion is like a pirate ship, and there are regular raids into each other's territory. There are regular attacks, some rapes and beatings.

The water is turned on briefly twice a day. Inmates come with buckets, but usually there is not enough water to go around. Some inmates become outcasts due to minor offenses such as petty theft or suspicion of gang disloyalty. They are denied access to proper indoor housing and wander a vast outdoor desert wasteland within prison confines and try to somehow live. They scavenge through an open garbage pit for discarded food. Wild dogs roam here and there. It is hard to properly describe the conditions throughout Larri Ganchos. There is a constant and vicious struggle to exist: for power, for drugs.

Sounds like fun.

I can't imagine anything else, especially for a Dutch kid whose father appeared to really help him out during the Natalie Holloway investigation. I feel like he'd be especially unprepared to hang in a Peruvian prison.

I'll agree her actions were stupid and likely put her on the path to her own murder. However, I've done some stupid things in my youth. I guess I just got lucky.

I think what has most people angry about this case is the coverup by the Aruba police and justice system. The fact that everyone knew VanderSloot (sp?) did this and would not tell where he dumped her body was maddening.
Watching Natalie's poor mother on tv was heartbreaking.

It's a lesson learned, though. A whole new group of kids are graduating right now. Many will go to Mexico, the Carribbean, Florida, etc. for graduation.
Parents need to pay more attention to the places their kids want to vacation.

Aruba is off my list forever.

Again, lesson learned. Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you can do anything you normally wouldn't do at home.

Seconded, to what everyone else said. She might not have made a decision that parents not named Dina Lohan would approve of by drinking and going off with some stranger in another country, but she didn't do anything wrong.

The only one who did something wrong is van der Sloot. Victim blaming only minimizes what he did by shifting the blame a little to the innocent victim. When something like a murder or a rape occurs the only one who did something wrong was the murderer or the rapist! And clearly he seems to have some other issues with violence, so if not Natalie Holloway, it would have been another girl, drunk or not.

I have seent he videotape of the victim and Van der Sloot going into the hotel room and of him leaving the hotel room after he murdered her. What I don't see is the video tape of him going out for coffee and returning. Hmmmmm

I thought I saw that the other night. 3 dudes got caught with cocaine. 1 guy was threatened by the others into taking the rap. Basically, he had to become a total drug addict in order to cope with the deplorable conditions. Vanderpoop is in for a lovely experience.

All I have to say is that I can't imagine the mindset of some people to commit acts that will land you in prison. Freedom is a wonderful thing.
