I thought the tsunami warning for Japan was related to the Chilean earthquake. Holy crap! This could be a mega disaster.

Chile just had their 8.8 earthquake today and the Tsunami warning in the pacific has been reported below. I guess the one in Japan yesterday didn't materialize? This is odd and disconcerting....

(AP) A tsunami warning was in effect for Hawaii Saturday following a massive earthquake that struck central Chile.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also issued a tsunami advisory for the coast of California and an Alaskan coastal area from Kodiak to Attu islands.

The first waves were expected to arrive in Hawaii at 11:19 a.m. Saturday (4:19 p.m. EST).

The center said a tsunami has been generated that could cause damage along coastlines of all islands in the Hawaii. It said a tsunami in California and Alaska was possible.

The Ewa Beach, Hawaii-based center called for "urgent action to protect lives and property" in Hawaii, which is among 53 nations and territories subject to tsunami warnings.

"The main thing is we want everyone to take this event seriously," said Charles McCreery, director of the center.

Yikes listening to the news...this was a nasty one. They are now saying it could have created waves 10 to 14 feet high in the Pacific. I bet some crazy bastard surfers in Hawaii like Jeff Spicoli are waiting to hang loose.....

A friend of mine is currently in Hawaii on his annual pilgrimage to President Obama's birthplace and is now on top of 10,000'+ Haleakala so he can watch the tsunami. Unless this is the start of Great Flood part II he'll be OK. http://www.philadelphiaspeaks.com/fo...ing_smilie.gif
