What is going on in Pakistan right now. The Taliban appear to be at each other's throats after the death of Mehsud. Obama's Afghanistan surge is resulting in higher US casualties but the Afghan Taliban appear to be struggling also.

Could Bin Laden be killed our captured during the term of this administration?

What's happening in both Afghanistan and Pakistan is very encouraging and shows promise. It's a shame that this was not done after 9/11 when the Taliban and Al Qaeda were in disarray. Now we are dealing with a Taliban that was allowed to regroup and rebuild for seven plus years. What were they thinking ? One way or the other we will also be dealing the aftermath of this and the Iraq disaster for decades.

Yes, but we'll see if the right wing gives Obama credit. I dount they will.

But-it is interesting to see what is happening in the Middle east-especially in Iran and AfPak. In Afpak-Could the US or Pakistan be close to nabbing the big dog (Bin Laden?). What kind of shock waves will it send in Washington if the US nails Bin Laden under the leadership of Obama!?!?

My guess is that the US was doing Pakistan a favor - I suspect that the Pakistani government is afraid of the popular reaction if it was seen as the one killing Mehsud. They know perfectly well that everyone already hates the US in that part of the country, so it's not like this will make our image worse in the pro-Taliban areas. Now the government can just lodge a mild protest about US action and privately celebrate his death. It could be that the Pakistani president and army chiefs were worried that the ISI or rogue elements in the army might even sabotage the operation, so they had to quietly get the Americans to do it.

You would be wrong. The offensive in the areas controlled by the Taliban are very very popular in Pakistan and Meshud was a reviled and hated person among the mass majority of Pakistanis. One of the main reasons this offensive started was because of public opinion. They are happy he is dead.

Our troops are dieing because Bush did not go after the Taliban or His business partners brother and let them dig in and almost take over Pakistan and regain control of the tribal areas in Afghanistan. Bush was soft on the terrorists that caused 9/11 and destabilized Iraq which will haunt us for decades. The deaths now are the result of Bush not getting the job done when he had the chance. President Obama is doing exactly what He said what he would in Afghanistan/Pakistan and it seems to be going well. BTW while our troops are disrupting the Taliban they are also burning the opium crop. That's where a lot of the funding for the Taliban comes from.

When Bush left office the MISSION WAS NOT ACCOMPLISHED.
