Feng shui master arrested

HONG KONG - POLICE said on Wednesday they arrested a Hong Kong feng shui master after the High Court ruled that his bid to claim eccentric tycoon Nina Wang's property empire was fraudulent. The arrest of Tony Chan, 50, a former bartender, came after investigators searched his US$30 million (S$42 million) home in the city's upmarket Peak district on Wednesday afternoon. 'The police today arrested a 50-year-old man surnamed Chan,' a police spokesman said. 'He is expected to be related to a forgery case.' The spokesman said police also seized files and a computer at Chan's home, adding that 'the case is still under investigation'.

Earlier on Wednesday, police said they would study the court ruling released on Tuesday, which described Chan as a liar who manufactured a forged will to inherit the late Wang's estimated US$13 billion fortune The high-profile case gripped the tycoon-obsessed city and generated blanket media coverage with Chan frequently cast as a villain who duped the eccentric Wang.
The pigtailed tycoon, once Asia's richest woman, died of cancer in April 2007 at the age of 69, triggering a bitter feud between Chan and her charity, both claiming they were entitled to her fortune. The Standard newspaper reported on Wednesday that the city's tax collector is expected to bill Chan HK$300 million (S$54.9 million) for the undeclared US$2 billion Ms Wang allegedly paid him for feng shui advice. -- AFP

Fortune teller freed on bail

HONG KONG - THE Hong Kong fortune teller suspected of forging a will giving him the multibillion-dollar estate of his ex-lover, Nina Wang, Asia's richest woman, was freed on Friday on US$640,000 (S$909,013) bail after more than a day in police custody. Feng shui expert Tony Chan Chun-chuen was arrested on Wednesday in connection with document forgery. Another will left Wang's fortune to a charity she and her late husband founded. A Hong Kong court on Tuesday sided with the charity, ruling that Chan's will was a forgery.

Chan was freed early on Friday after posting a HK$5 million ($640,000) bail and is required to report back in March, Hong Kong police said in a statement. Police spokesman Anne Lam said he has not been charged. 'There is still a lot of investigation work to be done,' Deputy Commissioner of Police Peter Yam told reporters on Thursday, declining to give further details on the case.

The will dispute fascinated Hong Kongers with its juicy revelations of Chan's affair with Wang, a developer who was nicknamed 'Little Sweetie' for her girlish outfits and pigtail hairdo. Chan said during the trial he and Wang were in love, sharing a passion for cooking, travel, model helicopters and feng shui - the Chinese art of arranging objects and choosing dates to improve luck. The judge in the will dispute described the 50-year-old former bartender as an opportunist who knew how to ingratiate himself with others. Chan says he is innocent and will appeal the ruling. -- AP

I believe Tony Chan did give Nina Wang lots of joy while they are together. Too bad greed over took him.

Tony Chan Chun-chuen, Feng Shui Master, Denied Billionaire Ex-Lover's Estate
HONG KONG — The pigtail-wearing tycoon Nina Wang may have lavished her feng shui master lover with hundreds of millions during her lifetime to cure her cancer and improve her luck. But a Hong Kong judge ruled Tuesday that the woman who was once Asia's richest never intended to leave him a multibillion dollar fortune.

The territory's High Court said a 2006 will that names Tony Chan Chun-chuen as the sole beneficiary of Wang's estate was forged. Judge Lam Man-hon instead awarded the money to Wang's charity, relying on a 2002 will.

Wang died of cancer in April 2007 at age 69. Even before her estate became subject to a legal battle, the woman known as "Little Sweetie" was tabloid fodder: She wore miniskirts and pigtails well into middle age, was the model for a cartoon character and, after her husband died, carried on an affair with Chan, a married man 20 years her younger.

Adding to the intrigue was Chan's patchy resume as a waiter, bartender, machinery salesman and market researcher – an unlikely match for Wang, who inherited the developer Chinachem Group from her husband, Teddy Wang, who was kidnapped in 1990. His body was never found.

At the trial over the competing wills, Chan testified he became involved with Wang when his wife was pregnant with their eldest son. He said she referred to him affectionately as "hubby pig" and that they genuinely loved each other, passing time by cooking, flying model helicopters – and practicing feng shui. Feng shui is the Chinese art of improving one's fortunes by arranging objects and choosing dates.

Chan told the court that in 1992 he advised Wang to dig holes at her company's properties to improve her luck. He also tried to use the art to prolong her life.

In the 326-page ruling issued on Tuesday, judge Lam described Chan as a scheming sycophant who forged Wang's signature on a will to steal her empire.

"I do not find the defendant (Chan) to be a credible witness. I find he is prepared to say anything to advance his claim in this action," Lam said.

Tony Chan, former feng shui consultant to deceased billionaire Nina Wang, has had a rough couple of days. After losing his HK$100 billion court case for Wang's estate, he is now facing HK$300 million in tax and penalty charges, as well as criminal charges on suspicion of forgery.

As we hold our breaths for the final outcome to the Chan-Wang saga, feng shui master and astrologist Edwin Ma says that Chan's eventual downfall is a forgone conclusion -- he can read it on Chan's face through traditional Chinese face-reading techniques:

Eyes
Master Ma says: "Chan's eyes are roundish and small -- we call these 'elephant eyes.' In traditional face reading, these types of eyes indicate craftiness and a tendency towards greed."

Mouth
Master Ma says: "Chan's lips are thick but not well defined. A person's lips tell us about their speech and their ability to articulate their thoughts clearly. The more defined a person's lips are, the better they are at defining their ideas orally.
"The size of Chan's mouth may seem big, but relative to the size of his head, his mouth is actually quite small. The size of the mouth is proportionate to a person's gall. A small mouth means a person is timid and tends towards the cowardly.
"The cleft on a person's upper lip represents his fortune at age 51 (Chan is now aged 50) and that age is an important turning point in a person's life. It is one of the most challenging years for a person and it will determine your fortune for the last half of your life.
"Chan's cleft in his upper lip is quite shallow and thin, this is not a good sign. Chan is going to have a difficult time getting through the next few years and is unlikely to have particularly good fortune in his old age. At best, Chan will lose half of his assets in the next few years."

Teeth

Master Ma: "Tony Chan's teeth are big and fit tightly next to each other, this is a sign of filial piety and that he is a man of taste. I suspect his teeth are fake. The teeth do not have good 'qi' about them. Of course, this is only what I can tell from Tony Chan's television appearances."

Body shape
Master Ma: "Tony Chan is top heavy. A person's body shape is proportionate to their life's fortune. In this case, Chan has a thick upper body and thin legs, this indicates that his fortune is 'thin' in the second half of his life."
