Default DeMint leads fight to block TSA rights
WASHINGTON --
Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., hopes to win today by losing. He is leading Republican efforts to prevent the nation's airport screeners and other employees of the Transportation Security Administration from gaining collective bargaining rights.

The Senate is scheduled to take up DeMint's amendment today, which would strip collective bargaining rights for TSA workers from broader legislation implementing all the recommendations of the Sept. 11 commission.

Charlotte Observer This shouldn’t even need debating as it is simple common sense. You don’t limit TSA’s capability of effectively managing their workers when you need to have a flexible game plan to adjust to the ever changing tactics of terrorists. The fact that the Democrats seem to be solidly behind this tells me that they care more about money flowing into their coffers from big special interest unions than they do about the security of the American people in our skies. More from the "most ethical Congress in history." Pretty damn shameful.

Why shouldn't they have a right to unionize? Protective services (fire, PD, EMS) have unions, and they seem to adapt just fine.

Why shouldn't TSA workers have collective bargaining power and whistleblower protection?

Cause *that's* what we're talking about.

Why are right wingers so against unions?

Oh yeah, I remember, Republicans are for the rich, not the working man.

And why would having a union for the people affect the airport security in a bad way?

Why is it that restricting the rights of americans is the first thing republicans do when a foreign threat appears? Could it be because only in an atmosphere of terror can they get away with things like that?
