That (divided government) is pretty much what sways my vote these days. To me, the ideal state of affairs (given our two-party system) is a Democrat POTUS and a Republican congress. I prefer to have Republicans proposing legislation, but with a Dem POTUS, anything too kooky will get vetoed. I also think that it's generally preferable for our system of checks and balances to be working full force - it seems that the less the government accomplishes, the better. Doesn't it warm your heart that 30% of your income going to accomplish nothing is better than 30% of your income going to whatever they might do, unchecked? regards gov. accomplishing anything, agreed..when I think of health care I shudder..if the gov. gets its hands into that pie, we are all cooked... |

Note to all NON-LIBERALS here is one who agrees with you that this is a very bad action, But two points. The first a question:
What has happened to the court case regarding the "FROZEN MONEYS" Was that just shoved under the rug? or is it still pending? If it is still pending, perhaps Pelosi figured that until A verdict comes down, he should be considered innocent. (OF COURSE "I" think he is guilty, but that dopesn't matter. FURTHER: regarding Travelers comment. A whole congressional district reelected her, then the whole House of Reps elected her to the leadership position (tho it was a Party vote) They could have elected someone else, but they didn't Traveler, it appears you are in the minority in thinking that she is dumb or stupid. I remember a couple of sayings "Stupid is, as stupid does(or says)" and "KETTLE/POT/very very very BLACK" Does the shoe fit?????? |

6 years ago I would have said bushwah ( no pun intended) BUT it appears you may be right...back when, with clinton in the seat and a rep. congress we got some needed reforms pushed through....the mid terms in 2002 and the 04 , did the cons no good as apparently we lost our minds......and our way..perhaps you’re right….no party should hold all the reins…it’s a pendulum..it will swing back….and has already begun too. Can you imagine health care run by the DMV or IRS?? |

Its disturbing more than anything, there's nothing normal with San Fran at all.
Donison, maybe by your standards in CA or your own she is intelligent, all she does is exploits the fact she's a woman to get sympathy, that's how she got elected and got the Dems the majoity. As much as most Dems wouldn't be willing to grade themselves and lose all dignity the way she does they have no issue with her doing it as it only her who comes accross as such a poitical whore. |

If you ask me, the (cue the music) "health care crisis" (end music) is alot of crap. I went without health insurance for most of my 20's and early 30's by choice. I was eligible for coverage with my employer for a $50 a month payrolll deduction. Yet, I made the choice not to be covered and saved the $600/year instead. Lots of my peers did the same thing too. Yet, to the gov't we were the, gasp, UNINSURED !!! Oh my! Personally, I wasn't worried because I was healthy as a horse and spent most of my free time playing sports, running marathons, etc... at the time, I would rather keep the $$$$, and that is what I did. I would guess that a good majority of today's 'uninsured' are in similar situations and choose not to be covered. Can you imagine health care run by the DMV or IRS?? dude, I didn't need that....nightmares tonight.... “number 4368…number 4368!!!!!” (Indignant tone)…poor schlep shuffles up to the window…. “yes..what can I not do for you?” “…I am…. Well… sick I have a 104 temp. and my midsection is swelling’.. “You look fine to me”……"okay (big sigh) lets get you an appt. with a doctor” “Oh thank you thank you thank you” “easy stud, go stand in that line over there” “uhmm the one outside the door?” “ *glaring*….yea…and?” “Oh sorry, yes of course” 3 hours later “Yes, what can I not do for you?" “…I am…. Well… sick I have a 104 temp. and my midsection is swelling”.. “*sigh* okay …hold on….you need a doctors appt. I guess(?)” “Yes I uhm got sent to this line for one….” “ I now why you got sent here, quiet!!!….*sigh* (telephone rings, call from a friend takes up the next 20 minutes)….. Call over, “civil” servant looks up..”oh you’re still here” “…I am…. Well… sick I have a 104 temp. and my midsection is swelling” "uhm hang on'".9 'civil' servant gets up...heads to the rear of the building..stopping off talking to a few co-workers..grabs a ding dong from the snack tray, eats it....sits, riffles though a month old copy of People magazine....gets up, comes back to the tray and grabs a twinkie....disappears...re-appears 20 minutes later... “…I am…. Well… sick I have a 104 temp. and my midsection is swelling” “you said that already *sigh* ..okay see Doctor Puffinstuff..heres your authorization”. “gee thanx…thanx a lot…thank you …oh… uhmm wait..this appt. is for 6 months from now….” “(indignant tone ) yes and?????” |

Absolutely ..I think I made a point ( in one of the plethora of threads on this issue) regards the statistics of 20/30 something’s choosing NOT to be covered as I, like you thought in those days I would live forever, military service not withstanding……… when I joined the civilian job market in 90, I took my chances..for a while….these 44 million who are uninsured have a sizable percentage as you say of those who don’t opt INTO a health care plan if it costs them anything….. just like the minimum wage argument, they are cherry picking stats to buttress their position…. |

Sorry to break up the conservative circle-jerk, but has there been anything other than an unidentified source and a rumor on this? Rep. Jefferson to Get Homeland Security Seat Associated Press Saturday, February 17, 2007; Page A09 House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who yanked embattled Rep. William J. Jefferson off a powerful tax committee last year, has decided to put him on the Homeland Security panel, aides to the Louisiana Democrat confirmed yesterday. The move infuriated some Republicans, who accuse him of being a potential security risk. |

that is a pretty acurate picture if you ask me! I have some good friends that live in BC Canada (just outside of Vancouver), they fly to Mexico! when they need anything outside of a checkup or routine medical treatment due to the government run system in Canada. They tell me it can take months for an appt. Essentially, they'd rather pay mexican doctors than accept the free canadian government "doctors" (sic) care. Go figure. Oh, and these are not super wealthy people either, just regular folks. Personally, given the choice I'd rather pay directly for something than through gov't taxation any day. Of course I feel that way about alot of things the government fucks up, er I mean runs...... |

so back to the topic..pelosi sees someone who was caught with 90K undeclared and illegal dollars in his freezer as someone who should sit on a committee? shes buying the black caucus ..and the black caucus's stand on this is shameful to say the least......their credibility ( if they had any left after backing Aristide) is shot....BUT they are black so don’t expect any media “outing” of this soon…..so much for the rep. culture of corruption, welcome to the club libs.....
