It's great that the House got through everything, but correct me if I'm wrong, they all have to now go through the Senate right? I wonder if the issues will have as easy a time there?

A matter of opinion.

I knew there would be a time that I'd agree with you.

Agreed.

The bills still have to go through the Senate, and then probably go to conference to reconcile the differences, but dammit, the process has to start somewhere, and the people doing the most complaining are complaining that the House passing some bills doesn't make those bills law. Well, DUH - there's nothing new about that.

What is new - at least in comparison to the last & truly pathetic Congress - is that the House and the Senate are both engaged in serious legislation. It may take some of us some time to get used to a Congress that actually works, and puts the country's interests ahead of their own, and doesn't either roll over & play dead or act mostly as a rubber stamp for whatever the hell the president wants to do, but that's what's happening right now. And I love it.

How is it complete? None of there proposals have been signed into law, and since they did not involve anyone in the decision making process, most of it probably never will be. All they did was put on a show. Furthermore, should these have really been the top priority for the House? Isnt the war or bloated govt a bit more important?

How? Which ones?

I'm going to take a wild guess and bet you're thinking of the minimum wage issue. I've yet to see anything that indicates that the bill (assuming it becomes law) would do anything to harm the U.S..

The house promised to pass the bills, They kept their promise. it is not in their abolity to make them laws. that is the combined baliwick of the house, the senate, and the president. This is simply the first step in the procedure. You know that perfectly well, and all you are doing is making noise.

While the lobbying bill might sound good and close some doors , does the American public really believe that there where not some other doors opened so that things can remain for the most part the same?

don't forget, this is a gradual change too. This will not impact the businesses. It's more of an excuse for them to raise prices so Mr CEO doesn't cry about it. Sorry, I'm in a bad mood today.

So, their agenda was actually just to pass legislation in the house, not to actually get it into law? Looks like its the House that is making noise. You might remember that when the Republicans did the same thing in 1994, they actually gave the Dems a say, and even got Clinton to sign it. Time will tell how much of a failure and show the 6 in 06 was.

Its simple logic. If you increase the wages of a business, you increase its costs. It either accepts the cost increase, hurting its profits, or cuts costs, hurting quality, staff, or the consumer, through firings ro price rasies. Furthermore, a wage increase at the low end inflates costs all the way up the chain, making it worse.

The best case scenario is that since very few people make mimimum wage, it will have no effect, so whats the point? There are currently 4 million jobs unfilled in this country, nearly all paying more than minimum wage.

Seeing how most of us all know how the American government works and how Democrats made some promises on their election run and the House made good on their end of the bargain, I have no idea how you can place any argument here. Sure, there's a bigger picture to look at, but we are talking about House accomplishment and many Americans are very happy that the House is actually operative after it's Republican hibernation.

Fine I'll remove it, but I feel it's well deserved. If he had a real argument, I wouldn't mind a 'civil' debate, but when it comes to bitching about non-issues, I have little sympathy.

Oh I agree with you. I hold myself back a lot and try to implement the fact that this is only a message board and hope that the majority of the country really has more compassion than what I see here sometimes.
