The biggest travesty here is that she even supports a minimum wage. But I'm glad she's making herself look like a fool. Hopefully both the reps and dems will outstupid each other to make way for a competent party. How can anyone vote for these idiots?
Careful there Slon, I was beginning to give your credit for some sense, but this statement makes me wonder., Nobody's right but you????

Are we supposed to expect our leaders to actually work?
Well, perhaps you should ask yourself if you want representatives who'll vote in favor of something without educating themselves on what it is, exactly, they're voting for.

That there are Republicans crying "foul" over this is comical. They could've read the bill but, instead, voted without having a clue as to what they were voting on.

The constituency, in every single district with a representative who voted without familiariaing themselves with the bill, should demand that the representatives be recalled.

Should we expect our leaders to work? Yeah, I think we should. When they don't, we shouldn't have to wait until the next election cycle to get them out of office...

It just broke. It will be a few minutes before we can get an url. You can view it on FOX cable until the *Cough* A.P. feels the need to release it…
Republicans didn’t even know about it. They asked “what’s this” and were told literally to shut up there out of line…

Apparently Nancy Pelosi is all for raising the minimum wage except on companies she has stock in like starkist. Apparently they pay their 75,000 employees an avg of 3.50$ an hour and she's specifically asking for an exemption from having to increase their wages.

The story is here:
GOP hits Pelosi's 'hypocrisy' on wage bill - Nation/Politics - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper
It is about exempting American Samoa from the new proposed Minimum wage laws. Ms. Pelosi is accused of granting favors to Del Monte (their corporate office is based out of San Francisco) and StarKist both who own and operate Tuna Packing plants in American Samoa.

I know maybe if the liberals ignore this issue it'll go away. I mean the nerve of the Republicans to point his out.

So it's not hypocritical to point at Nancy Pelosi even when the republicans didn't want the minimum wage raised, at all?

Man, you extreme righties are a funny crowd!

Yes, because ginormous deficits (a la Reagan and W) are brilliant economic strategies.

Anyway, for those on the attack - are the other American holdings/protectorates (Mauritius comes to mind) also being exempted?

I have an idea why don't you comment on the hypocracy of Pelosi. Or would you rather just ignore reality; i'm guessing the second.

What hypocrisy? American Samoa has been exempted from minimum wage laws since the '30s.

So you think it's ok for some companys to pay below the minimum wage but not others? Oh and the minimum wage was just over 5$ for how long? But Pelosi and Co. think that's too low except for companies they're invested in.

As for myself. I am wondering why this even applies to US Possessions. They have a different financial basis. Tho of course Mexico is not a US Territory.

To consider Us posessions the same as the mainland, would be like legislating the same minimum wage for mexico However, I think we need to get more info on this before condemning, or concurring with the house bill. That's not partisan, that's called logic.

Perhaps if we can cut out all the troublesome domestic entitlement programs that the left insists on throwing away money on we wouldn't have to worry about such budget deficits.

maybe you should have suggested that to w when he had majorities in both houses - or maybe he would have been too busy signing spending bils to listen

You seem to have this notion (like a lot of righties) that only stupid, lazy, or uneducated people have minimum wage jobs. I have to say you have little grasp on what it is to need a "minimum wage" type job on the way to your goals in life. You have to be able to eat and house yourself or your family, on your way to the american dream, don't you? It's like a guy I know from church. He told me, "You know, I'd rather pull myself up by the bootstraps, work my ass off to better myself and give my kids a better opportunity. But, I'd much rather do that, and feed/clothe them at the same time."

In a perfect world, were people don't get too greedy, we wouldn't need minimum wage laws. But in the real world, because people can't agree on what "too greedy" is, we need a minimum wage law.
