In a perfect world, were people don't get too greedy, we wouldn't need minimum wage laws. But in the real world, because people can't agree on what "too greedy" is, we need a minimum wage law. |

We don't "need" one. Simply because if companies offer too little pay no one will work for them AND no one will have the money to buy their products or services. |

You seem to have this notion (like a lot of righties) that only stupid, lazy, or uneducated people have minimum wage jobs. I have to say you have little grasp on what it is to need a "minimum wage" type job on the way to your goals in life. You have to be able to eat and house yourself or your family, on your way to the american dream, don't you? It's like a guy I know from church. He told me, "You know, I'd rather pull myself up by the bootstraps, work my ass off to better myself and give my kids a better opportunity. But, I'd much rather do that, and feed/clothe them at the same time." On the Pelosi angle regards freebies and allowances to her own and herself… Its par for the course….they all do it but she especially hypercritical in doing so….She always makes statements that, “with us”, (dems)the environment is not an issue, it’s an ethic, it’s a value really??……. So here we go, from free republic- “Nancy Pelosi and her husband and fewer than 10 other partners wanted to build a golf course and country club outside of San Jose, California, called the CordeValle Country Club. In order to get approval to build on these 275 acres, they had to comply with some very stringent county environmental regulations. Now the California tiger salamander and the Western pond turtle are apparently endangered species and they’re very, very common on these 275 acres that the Pelosis wanted to develop. So the agreement they struck with local regulators was, we’ll build the golf course, we’ll set up some holding ponds and we’ll create a natural habitat to make sure that these environmental endangered species survive. (question- would a republican get this kind of variance? Ha…don’t make me laugh…. the media would keel haul him for even asking…and we alllll know it)… Of course, they built the golf course. It opened in 2000. If you want to join, the membership is $250,000. But they never followed the environmental regulations. The ponds were never built for these endangered species. For seven years, they also failed to file any of the environmental reports required by the California Fish and Wildlife Commission. A 2004 County Environmental Compliance Report found all kinds of environmental problems on the Pelosis’ golf course”. Hahahaha what a tool…..but hey, lets save the polar bears right? And of course her refusal to allow her workers at her restaurants and vineyards out here to unionize…….she seems to be among those rich corp. type employers who financially benefit from a steady supply of cheap foreign labor…..hummmm…..Pelosi, was the winner of the 2003 Cesar Chavez award from the United Farm Workers, but hires only nonunion workers and sells these grapes to nonunion wineries…how weird and ridiculous is that? but its all good, she sang; “ look for the union label” to her grandkids..one of whom I am sure will run for pres. and tell us about that…at least the song will have been written then …….hahahahhahahahhahhahhahahha sorry had to do it..silly yes ..but I could not resist. |

That assumes a simplistic scenario. That all jobs have competition, that all jobs have equal availability, that all jobs fit all employees, etc, etc.. |

Some Republicans who voted in favor of the minimum-wage bill were particularly irritated to learn yesterday -- after their vote -- that the legislation did not include American Samoa.
"I was troubled to learn of this exemption," said Rep. Mark Steven Kirk, Illinois Republican. "My intention was to raise the minimum wage for everyone. We shouldn't permit any special favors or exemptions that are not widely discussed in Congress." "This is the problem with rushing legislation through without full debate." I think an even bigger problem is a person voting on legislation which he, clearly, isn't as familiar with as he should be... |

{Content Edited} Um..breath. OK so I don't understand the problem here. Did Democrats ever claim they weren't just as bought and sold as Republicans arE? It's called politics as they are righ now. If you think there's something wrong with the way that works, I suggest not screaming at Democrats for doing the same thing conservatives do. I suggest electing officials who aren't corporately owned or pressuring your reps to vote in laws that make it harder for corporations to control politicians. Expect more of this until you are willing to force the political system to change. Quit your whining and do something.

All "minimum wage" jobs do have competition. They tend to be warehouse or assembly type jobs. And others of course. It is simplistic, because at that level of employment, business is very simplisitc. If you've stocked soda in a warehouse, you can stock wire and cable and so on. If you've driven a forklift, you can drive it anywhere. |

At least its better then the GOP keeping out all DoL regs out of the Mariana Islands.
Why should the minimum wage be raised? We righties may be a funny crowd but you lefties are a bunch of walking economic diseasters. 'Its simple economics raising the costs reduces demand' is not economics. Its not even close to a realistic model. |

So you think it's ok for some companys to pay below the minimum wage but not others? Oh and the minimum wage was just over 5$ for how long? But Pelosi and Co. think that's too low except for companies they're invested in. As one who complains about the partisan bashing, you seem to be quite good at it. |

Hopefully both the reps and dems will outstupid each other to make way for a competent party. How can anyone vote for these idiots? Actually I think there are some good repubs and dems.....The problem is that they are standing in the corner somewhere and aren't being heard. The idiots are taking front center stage and screaming. |

But I'm glad she's making herself look like a fool. Any of the rank and file conservatives here care to explain that? I've got an idea: If you're going to vote on legislation, how about you read the fuckin' thing? How about that? |

The ones looking foolish are the Republicans who voted in favor of it, and then bitched because, essentially, they didn't know what it said. |
