Yeah, right
Most atheists come about that point of view one of two ways, the first is that they were raised by atheists, the second (and in my opinion more common occurence) is that they were raised by pushy religious types.

For most atheists it is a matter of going from one extreme to the other.

Fact is, however, if you removed all the bad, pointless, and evil parts of the bible you'd be left with a small pamphlet of platitudes. Now some people may really like those platitudes, and thats well and good, others find immense value not in the bible but the interpretation of the good parts which has come from it. But it is hardly some divine piece that everyone will find inspiring or an irrefutable moral guide.

Please, point out a "liberal" who has pointed at the Bible and said that it's "crap." Just a story? Sure. But that's not the same thing.
You haven't read much of the religion discussions then...

Default Carter faces revolt over book on Middle East
I wasn't sure where to place this...
I seen this on the news too but this was the only link I could find.

The former US president Jimmy Carter was facing a revolt from some of his own supporters yesterday after 14 members of the advisory board of his human rights organisation resigned in protest at his view on Israel and the Palestinians.

Appears that Carters own followers are finding out that he was full of it crap.

Did you even read the whole article, it's 14 out of 200 members, not exactly overwhelming. And let them go, clearly they are in the pocket of Isreal. The book speaks nothing but the truth and I'm extremely proud he has the balls to say it.

The news said more may be on the way out.......The 14 have been with Carter for some time, just seems odd that they'd pack up and leave all of a sudden.
I'm waiting to see if more jump ship and for what reasons......

Carter was an compassionate human being, that I'll give him credit for.....but he sucked ass as the President and his current views are way off IMO.

yes yes.....they must be sleeper agents "in the pocket of israel" and have been waiting years, nay decades for this day to take their revenge... and just wait and see what they do their offcies before they go....they'll be painting stars of david on the walls , injecting virus' into the servers etc....

And as far as speaking the truth? Then I must submit; your knowledge of what apartheid is or constitutes is bereft.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you actually read Carter's book?

I suppose it's easier just to assume that you know what he said.

The individuals that resigned are upset because Carter didn't take the usual "Israel is the victim, the Palestinians are evil" line. It's not unreasonable to hold the Israelis to account for their behavior, is it?

Why don’t you guys just agree for once and admit carter has become an anti-American ass clown.
It helps your credibility once and a while to not be so obvious.

Carter is a feckless boob. He is trying his best to remake his presidential legacy. He is best ignored.

I confess, I have no idea what you mean......I haven't read the book if that's what you're referring to.

Another possibility is that his organization will be better served without those who chose to resign.

I appreciate the fact that Carter has chosen to stop mincing words on the subject. Israel is without question an Apartheid state, and those who support it are supporting racialism.

I have no idea, I seen this on the news before I went to bed.
They interviewed two of the people who resigned and they said (in a round about way) that Carter was loosing it...

Perhaps Imperator will explain for us why we shouldn't be calling the elephant in the living room an elephant.

The usual suspects are all over Carter... typical. I bet not one of you has read the book and not one of you has a clue what the issues are in Palestine.

You would think one of you could at least present a valid criticism of his ideas, but i suppose its too easy just to insult him and pretend you have any idea what you are talking about.

can the detractors please explain exactly what is so incorrect about carter's assesment of the situation? is israel not confiscating palestinian land, dividing what territory they have left, and severely restricting economic opportunity? and not in the book, but more recently, resuming the building of settlements? do you guys just have a problem with the title or do you really have issue with the accuracy of the information in the book? i haven't read it either but i have read excerpts. and everything so far seems right on the money. i think people are getting their panites in a bunch because israel gets so much of its support from the US and might as well be considerend a 51st state. its as if americans take any criticism of israel as if it were criticism of the US. i'm sure thats in no small part because of powerful lobbying groups like AIPAC, which, by the way, is exempt from the new lobbying reform legislation. funny isn't it?

It sounds so evil when you say it like that doesn't it? Its rather stupid to list the bad things of either israel or palestine with out mentioning both at the same time... .. More even handed person would add palestinians blow themselves up in side city buses full of women and children, Gun men use palestinian women children as human shields. Palestinians target Nightclubs and anything else to get the maximum civilian damage. e.t.c. I hate it when they go on and onn about on side.. so stupid.

Carter criticized both sides, it seems that one side is just getting whiny that they were criticized at all. Although as far as the human shield issue, the IDF does that plenty too.

Quite frankly I'd couldn't care less for Israel's woes, for the amount of money we're funneling into them the US should expect a puppet, not an equal partner. There is no reason for the US to be putting up with any of the crap we're getting from Israel, and yes I don't need to list Palestine or any of the other nations in this, because we don't fund them (except for Egypt to some extent), and they aren't completely reliant on us for their existence.

The negotiations would be far easier if the United States started by showing Israel that we are willing to completely cut them off from everything if they reject a deal we consider acceptable.
