People love to critique books they've never read. I bet those resignees didn't read it and I bet those criticizing it here haven't read it. I heard an interview with Carter and what he said made perfect sense. Israel is IN Palestine and treating the Palestinians IN THEIR OWN LAND like second class citizens. This isn't about what Israel does inside Israel, it's about what they are doing inside Palestine, in the occupied territory.

This reminds me of the book The Davinci Code, when so many Christians declared they were against the book and they refuse to read it. I know two people personally who told me that, as that was what the Church was telling them.

It's a strange phenomenon. People declaring a book to be crap, before they even read it.

Page 264 is the last page of the index. It starts with:

wars between Arabs and Israel:
casualty figures in, 67, 110, 155,
206

What's your point?

Please, point out a "liberal" who has pointed at the Bible and said that it's "crap." Just a story? Sure. But that's not the same thing.

Gee, what a surprise. A dodge and generalization instead of actually answering the question.

At least you're consistent.

Pramjockey's right. And in addition, Atheists don't say the Bible is crap. They just say it's not the word of God. It's a book written a thousand or so years ago by some men and a few women, translated hundreds of times into many languages. It is a book to try to explain the meaning of life, why are we here and what happens when we die? The Bible has many good teachings and many bad ones, re: sacrificing your only child to God, beating your wife, etc... It's just a book. But some believe it is the word of God.

On the other hand, there is Carter's book. And people here and elsewhere claim it's crap before they even read it. How can you declare something is wrong before knowing what that something is?

In my experience many of them read the bible before they decided that.

Look, I know you think Carter is God, a point that I love to disprove with FACT.

It's clear that you've never read the bible, there's nothing it it that promotes sacrificing your only child or beating your wife. Maybe you should research that before you make such an ignorant statement. Believe it or not, it IS the word of God HIMself.

But not truthfully.
I'm a Conservative, meaning I don't have to lie to prove points, I did answer truthfully, and furthermore have proven the point.

No I don't think Carter is God. I think he is a good Christian man.

No it isn't clear that I've never read the Bible. Maybe you should read the Bible and learn that there certainly is child sacrifice in there.

  • In the Bible, Abraham is told to sacrifice his son Isaac for the glory of God, though angelic intervention prevents it; the binding of Isaac is one of the most challenging, and perhaps ethically troublesome, parts of the Bible.
  • The Bible implies that the Ammonites offered child sacrifices to Moloch.
  • In the Bible (Judges 11:29-40), Jeptha, after a victory over the Ammonites, sacrifices his daughter because he had vowed to sacrifice the first thing that came out of his door to greet him on his return.
Child sacrifice - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 'With what shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the High God? Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?' (Micah 6:6-7). Bible study: Baal, child sacrifice, propitiation & the atonement "After these things God tested Abraham, and said to him, ‘Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here am I.’ He said, ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering upon one of the mountains of which I shall tell you’." (Genesis 22:1-2, R.S.V.).

"By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was ready to offer up his only son ..." (Hebrews 11:17, R.S.V.).

"Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered up his son Isaac upon the altar?" (James 2:21, R.S.V.). Abraham and the Child of Sacrifice - Isaac or Ishmael?

This is really stupid, there is no promotion of child sacrifice in the bible.

Let's start with Judges, shall we? The Ammonites did sacrifice to false gods.

Jephthah gave his daughter as a burnt offering. That didn't come from God, Jephthah had a history of jumping the gun, taking matters into his own hands without the proper time. So, God never commanded it, and it was an important lesson for Jephthah and all of us to be careful what you vow.

Abraham never sacrificed Isaac, you need to read some more about that.

Abraham never sacrificed Isaac, you need to read some more about that.
But he thought God told him to, and he would have if the angels didn't intervene.

Anyway, back to the topic of Carter's book. Thanks daisym, for the reminder.

It's true that our finite minds can never understand Gods infinite wisdom. God did tell him to, as a test, and as he was about to do it, God stopped him. God doesn't test us for his benefit. He tests us to show us our own faith.

Thanks, daisym.
