NEW YORK — Has North Korean leader Kim Jong Il subverted the United Nations Development Program, the $4 billion agency that is the U.N.’s main development arm, and possibly stolen tens of millions of dollars of hard currency in the process?
According to a top official of the U.S. State Department — using findings made by the U.N.’s own auditors — the answer appears to be a disturbing yes, so far as UNDP programs in North Korea itself are concerned. And just as disturbingly, the U.N. aid agency bureaucracy has kept the scamming a secret since at least 1999 — while the North Korean dictator and his regime were ramping up their illegal nuclear weapons program and making highly publicized tests of intermediate range ballistic missiles. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here we go again - while 100,000 of people sit in N. Korean prisons and their population starving to death - the U.N. knowingly has given Kim Jong tens of millions of dollars. In other words - WE THE TAXPAYERS who fund the U.N. have been bilked millions to help build palaces for the most vile man on the planet, and thanks to UN crooks financed his weaponry. I especially liked this part,
Malloch Brown left the U.N. along with Annan at the end of last year and has since been harshly critical of the Bush Administration and its former ambassador to the U.N., John Bolton, for their demands for greater U.N. transparency and reform. Bolton, the man liberals love to hate, kinda of vindicates him, doesn't it? |

Now that Annan is out, I think we'll hear more horror stories come forth. After the oil for food scandal in which numerous entities made millions$ - all laundered through the UN mafia....yes I believe much more will be uncovered. I fear however that few will hear of it - the only media covering this is Fox so far. I have no doubt it will be buried in the NY Times..and told as a footnote on the little watched Sunday Talking head shows. This is a major story - if this was the Bush administration caught laundering money for say..Isreal - this would be front page news for 6 months!! |

This thread is exactly what I expected - and shows specifically why there will be no reform for the corrupt money laundering organization called the U.N.
Liberals simply do not want to say anything bad about the U.N. This thread has gotten little response - it will get equal treatment from the media. |

I don't know what you're talking about. I've said that the U.N. is a useless organization in various, forms, ways, and forums. It's getting pretty redundant for me at least. As for this story being covered in the media, well in most places the evening news hasn't come up yet. I'd say wait and see. Fox news doesn't have a reputation for doing in depth fact checking. The Raw Story | Fox smears Sen. Obama, says he 'covered up' Muslim past Oh boy, we can do this all night... |

This thread is exactly what I expected - and shows specifically why there will be no reform for the corrupt money laundering organization called the U.N. But in the end the UN has some benefit, but its just another imperfect human organization susceptible to corruption and failure. The entire planet needs reform, including all its governments, as well as the UN. Andrew |

P.S. - it will be interesting to see the media coverage...so far...nothing on CNN, BBC, CNN International.... To me that is justification to end civilization right here and now. We are obviously a lost cause. Andrew |

Not surprising. The UN is pointless. We should get out and save a few hundred billion. The world is not ready to solve its differences peacefully. |
