I heard this on the news today. Turns out it was the Republican John Boehner who requested Steny Hoyer not put any votes for the day so they could go to the football game. Nobody is trying to work any more or less than anyone else. This was a stupid thread. As just about all of us have already pointed out, nobody gives a shit about this except apparently you and Varus, two big partisans. |

Oh, please........... Stop nauseating us all. LOL!!! Funny when a big partisan accuses others of being a partisan as if it's something horrible. You shouldn't put yourself down so strongly. Have some self respect! If you read my link you will see it's the Ohio and Florida Republicans who want the day off to go to the football game and it's the Georgia Republican lying about it being the Democrats fault. But the real reason was that some lawmakers, including House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and other members of the delegations from Ohio and Florida, wanted to travel to Arizona to watch tonight's college football championship between Ohio State and the University of Florida. Some Republican lawmakers were outraged at the recess, accusing Hoyer of breaking his vow. "We all know the big national championship game is on Monday night at 8 p.m.; but taking an entire day to watch the game isn't what we should spend part of our five-day workweek doing," said Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga. Price criticized Hoyer for allowing the day off. "Telling the American people one thing in front of the television cameras and then backpedaling less than one week into the 110th Congress is a symptom of a greater problem," he said. (Price was in Atlanta for the day, meeting constituents and doing interviews with national and local media.) Just a bunch of lying accusations. Dishonest pieces of shit. Let's remember this Tom Price lying sack o' shit for the future shall we? |

The problem for Democrats over the next couple of years is Iraq. Let's face it. That's why they won the majority in the first place. They ran on, "we need a change of course in Iraq". By side-stepping the issue while going to other things is going to make them weak over the next couple of years.
I find it very ironic, the very next day after elections, Nancy Pelosi was interviewed over the victory. Her stance on Iraq on that day, was to send more troops into Iraq to secure Bagdad. Her statement--"If we're in war, we need to put the pedal to the medal" in order to bring all of our troops home sooner. Well, as of today, since Bush has brought up sending more troops to Iraq, she now takes the exact opposite position & threatens to not fund additional troops. IT'S THE SAME OLD POLITICAL GAME, AS ALWAYS! |

What does this have to do with the Republicans blaming the Democrats for having the day off when it was the Republicans who requested the day off to go to a football game? What is extremely interesting, is that the Number One focus of the now majority party is anything else but IRAQ. Again, they ran & won on the strategy of "we need a change of course in Iraq". Over the last few weeks we have heard NOTHING from them on Iraq. Except, Nancy, after stating that she wanted to send more troops to Iraq to secure Bagdad, has now flip-flopped, stating she will opt to not fund any new troops. That's is a much more important piece of news than whichever group decides to go to a football game. |

Oh come on! The democrats instead of going to work last week, spent the entire week, patting each other on the backs. Everyone knows it. "Oh, your vote for us had something to do with Iraq?" It had everything to do with Iraq and you sold us on a new direction in Iraq. Remember Conyers making bullpoints on reasons to impeach the President and now he pretends he never said a thing about it. Yeah, I'm with you on this. The Democrats seemed to have bullshitted the voters. If they do turn their back on the voters and not focus on Iraq, then we MUST conclude that Karl Rove IS a genius. |

Over the last few weeks we have heard NOTHING from them on Iraq. Except, Nancy, after stating that she wanted to send more troops to Iraq to secure Bagdad, has now flip-flopped, stating she will opt to not fund any new troops. In issuing her warning, Pelosi made clear that her party supported boosting the overall military size “to protect the American people against any threats to our interests” and would not cut off money for troops already in Iraq. But Bush will not get a blank check for an open-ended commitment there, she said. Any funding he seeks for additional forces in Iraq – Bush's expected plan could send as many as 20,000 more U.S. troops – will get the “harshest scrutiny.” “The burden is on the president to justify any additional resources for a mission,” said Pelosi, D-Calif. “Congress is ready to use its constitutional authority of oversight to question what is the justification for this spending, what are the results we are receiving.” “There's not a carte blanche, a blank check for him to do whatever he wishes there,” she added in an interview taped Saturday and broadcast Sunday. link You keep saying 'over the past few weeks' and "all last week" when referring to the Democrats, but they were just sworn in last Thursday. So you seem to be a bit confused about when they started their majority. |

I had to get to the bottom of this and look what I found:
Contrary to an Internet report, Republicans in the House of Representatives appear to have asked for a day off less than one week into the 110th Congress, RAW STORY has learned. The Democratic leadership consented, and no action is scheduled on the House floor today. Congress will not meet today to begin the official "100 hours" agenda of the Democratic Members due to a request put in to the Democratic Leadership by Rep. John Boehner, the Republican Minority Leader in the House of Representatives. "Mr. Boehner made this request, and in the interest of comity, Democrats granted it," a senior Democratic aide told RAW STORY. The Raw Story | Drudge blamed Dems for 'day off for football' but '100 hours' agenda delay said to be due to GOP request I just can't wait to hear what Varus will say about this now. HAHAHA! |

But we already know Republicans are lazy good for nothings that are only interested in the bottom line and screwing the indigenous peoples of wherever. It's amusing that the Dems appear to be the ones consenting to this laize-faire attitude. And I seem to remember Pelosi saying something about the first 100 hours. Next monday they'll be off because of MLK. So how many hours of the first 100 does the majority actually plan on working? |
