Default Chuck Hagel (R Neb) calls condi a liar
When Condoleeza Rice testified in the house today and claimed there is no civil war in Iraq Hagel said ""To sit there and say that, that's just not true." Now I may be misunderstanding what "not true" means but I think the congressman just called madam secretary a liar. Hagel also said w's plan is "“the most dangerous foreign policy blunder in this country since Vietnam".

A Republican! From Nebraska!! Calling the SecState a liar in a public hearing!!! It's hard to believe w has managed to shatter his party so badly in these few years in office. If w gets this kind of reaction in his own party then it really is all over for him.

I really don't think this should be taken as a sign of Bush 'shattering' the party. Surely you would expect this kind of reaction to anyone who is lying so blatently.

I say that there is instead a problem with all the republicans who agree with her, or also spout the same lies.

Somebody posted "Hagel is a traitor". That's the kind of wrongheaded thinking I hate about America right now. "Groupthink" is what it's also called. This idea that someone ought to just blindly go with their party is ludicrous. Isn't there a moral imperative? People who think like this would be the kinds of people who would follow someone into a ditch I guess. And if President Bush jumped off a bridge, should every conservative do that too? What if Bush drove a car over the Grand Canyon for peace, should every conservative follow? Calling Chuck Hagel a traitor only makes sense if you stand up for stupidity.

I think it is one of the seminal moments of our time, that moment today when Hagel called the White House out on it's bullshit and the whole room applauded! He said exactly what needed to be said if you're the kind of person who uses reason and logic and who understands things in a fair and balanced way. Hagel is a patriot in the truest sense, putting the welfare of his nation over his measely, intolerant, shoot first and ask questions later party.

This is a danger associated with what is called biased news reporting but in actuality has a much deeper base and agenda. The presenting of happenings the way they want there base to be conditioned to see and support what they really do. Those of us fortunate enough to see what they do watched last year in aw as we laughed at them suddenly taking it upon themselves to begin referring to Iraq’s participation in the war on terror as a civil war (it was silly, childish and transparent.).
Now even the young and weak-minded can see (If willing.) what it is they do…

Unless you are claiming that those are not Hagel's words then I have no idea how "biased news reporting" comes in to this. As for the rest of your post I frankly don't understand what any of it has to do with this thread.

Yeah - he can forget about running for president in 2008 now...

I agree with what Hagel said - there is no doubt that there is a civil war in Iraq either active right now or brewing imminently.

To deny that is folly.

lol - I thought of that after I posted.
But I'm sure there are things w would like to accomplish in the remainder of his term and I'm also sure he'd like to be remembered as someone who did not destroy his party's political power. I think both of those goals are now beyond his reach.

If you can post that, I guess I'll have to pay more attention to your posts. I'm always ready for a good laugh.
