The point is that for those of us who live in the real world instead of some sort of paranoid nightmare fantasyland, the president's powers are limited. Great, to be sure, but he is not omnipotent. He cannot control the weather. He cannot ensure a good harvest. He is not God.

I never watch television. I couldn't care less what anyone on MSNBC or Fox or any other TV channel says. I'm participating on this board, and so are you, and at the moment -- since I'm engaging you in conversation -- I care what you say. You and nobody else. Not MSNBC. Not anyone. And YOU are implying that President Obama is omnipotent and can ensure a bountiful harvest purely by willpower. Certainly not by presidential authority, since he has none applicable to the situation, for good or ill.

Because unless he is omnipotent and has (and has misused) God-like powers, this entire thread is an exercise in sheer absurdity.
His polocys have weakened the dollar thus made the price of things like food higher......I didnt know I had to spell it out....I guess people here are not as sharp as I expected.

By not allowing unlimited import of Chinese, Mexican, and other third world produced food, prices go up.

By not allowing unlimited foreign farm and menial labor, food prices go up.

By insisting on food inspections, food prices go up.

By imposing burdonsome pollution regulations, and limiting and regulating the use of pesticides and hebicides, food prices go up.

By unfairly skewing tax policies and regulations againts more efficient corporate farming techniques, prices go up.

Liberals are ruining America.

You're missing the big one. Kill off a substantial fraction of the US population. Remove the excess demand and save cheap food!

Food prices are effectively immaterial to my pocket book. A 1.6% increase on the (US average) 10% of my income spent on food means a change of 0.16% in my total spending. Quite a few other factors make a bigger difference in my financial bottom line.

ahoy Pramjockey,

the whole thing be an outrage...when i think 'o the increasin' cost 'o a head 'o broccoli or the skyrocketin' rate i must pay fer a bag 'o Doritos, i just can barely think....angry thoughts swirl through me noggin', a vitriolic mix 'o thoughts, the sky turns dark and the sound 'o the ocean roars in me ear...i close me eyes and i see the words;

NCAA BRACKET - ALINKSY - GOLF - KENYA...over and over and over again....

'tis at that point me head slams into me keyboard as i lose consciousness.

It doesnt matter if BO is or isint the cause of rising food and gas prices.

It has happened on his watch(of basketball and golf), thus he gets credit

See W, Bush, as cause ond to blame for everything including bad weather and gas pains.

In fact I have been hospitalized at SHANDS HOSPITAL in Gainesville for exacerbation of abdominal pain, and I blame BO! And pirate and pram incessant BS! With a little luck, pirate will lose consiousness till I get out of the hospital!

Wrong! Again! Food prices go up worldwide when there is crop failure anywhere. Check into the free market system, you'll understand why.
That sounds like we're in a world economy, will you tell Goob, Blue and Dick that for me.

No, your problem is that they're not as stupid and ill-informed as you had expected. What you just said is sheer bullshit. How do I know? Simple: while the price of FOOD has risen sharply, prices across the board have not. Oil has also risen. When you see ALL prices rising, then you know there's a weak currency involved. When you see only SOME prices rising, you know instead that it's something specific to that commodity.

We know what's making food prices rise. It's not monetary. It's a bad harvest. We know that. Therefore you can't peddle this garbage and have people buy it.

You need to go to another forum where people are stupider and more ignorant. You might be believed there.

While for some people that may be so, it doesn't make them right. It just makes them stupid.

I was waiting for a voice of sanity on that one. Thanks.

Hey guess what? Obama is president. It was bad polocy from men like him that caused this and that also includes him. He is responsible as well as the next guy that follows him.....Thats the job.
I am sure Obama will bring out his magic wand and fix the mess, ya know, like the other Presidents did. Why is it that so many folks think the Pres has a control room where he sets prices?

One thing that affects food prices is energy prices. Remember in 08 when the prices on food went up due to the increase in the price of oil? I did not blame Bush for that, as I knew better.

But these increases are not due to just energy costs, as we all know. But it does play a role. The eruption in the M.E. we have witnessed as of late I think was at least partially due to food prices, and the recession. When economies tank, the people start to show signs of unrest. Sometimes they even take it to the streets.

The good news is that gas dropped by $0.10 a gallon here in rural Iowa. Also, good news is that Mexican veggies are showing up on the grocery shelves and the normally high Winter prices are starting to drop. Not as much as they would have without the Winter freezes in the deep South and even Northern Mexico, but dropping never the less.
