This Isn't Deficit Control. It's Assault.

The GOP's plan to cut some programs are going to cause a great deal of harm. Even though lack of experience by some of the newly elected House members may just make this ignorance, those in GOP power are doing it to pay off large corporate donors, those who want less regulation into their massive grab of money.

Richard Trumka: This Isn't Deficit Control. It's Assault.

No job safety inspections while inspectors are furloughed for up to three months. No food safety inspections while inspectors are off the job for more than a month. Ten thousand teachers and aides cut from struggling schools and 7,000 special education teachers and staff gone. State and local job training and employment services phased out for up to 8 million workers. Medicare and Social Security operations crippled. Fewer local police officers. Wall Street reform stymied. Policing of the financial practices that sank our economy gutted. More than 340,000 transportation jobs killed.

The food safety inspectors cuts are probably the most disturbing in an immediate sense.

No food safety inspectors? That victory garden's looking like a pretty smart idea...

I highly recommend Burpee seeds. Order your catalog here (makes for great bathroom reading during these cold months):

2011 Burpee Gardening Seed Catalog - Vegetable Seeds, Annual Flower, Perennials, Herbs, Garden Supplies

Also, I need to learn more about jarring. You can also freeze vegatables, but that freezer fills up pretty quick.

Yes, we all know you people wouldn't know deficit control if it bit you in the rear.

If you did we wouldn't be in this situation.

Yeah, just moved into our new house in December, so I haven't gotten a chance to build our new beds. I'll have about 4 or 5 times the planting space that I've had before. I'm SO looking forward to it. I was amazed at what I was able to squeeze out of the little plot of land I had in our townhouse; now I've got a full yard (corner lot) to play with.

How would you suggest we pay for everything you want Obama and crew to spend on? From a pure budget point of view, how do we pay for all this?

You can also grow potatoes in used tires. I tried this last year and it worked great.

It really is a good feeling to grow your own stuff. A friend of mine and I are even looking to go so far as to raise our own chickens and possibly goats.

Makes sense - tires absorb a lot of heat.

I'd love to have a few chickens. HOA precludes that kind of thing, though. Have to make do with a couple of dogs.

Won't be eating them, though.

Here's a tip. Get railroad ties and build the beds up off the ground a bit. Makes weeding, picking things a lot easier.

We've already received our Gurney's catalog of seeds and trees. Last year we had a larger garden, and I may till more land this year. We're about out of fresh frozen corn, green beans, but still have plenty of Buttenut and Acorn squash.

Those squirrels in the front yard tree will be fat soon after the yard get's green, just young and fat enough for some stew.

If the GOP has their way, I may just live off the land till enough people die of food poisoning and gunfights in the streets, and there's canned food in the closed down supermarkets.

All wealth is far more then annual GDP of course so the debt could most certainly be paid off with confiscation of all the wealth. If anyone actually wanted to pay it all off at once. Paying it all off at once would be bad for business.

We pay for it by going back to the same tax structure under Clinton, before "W" and the GOP Congress screwed it up, and looking at each and every spending bill and agency by itself. We don't close school, fire departments, police stations and stop inspecting foods and medicines.

We don't give Boner his $450 million for an engine that the military doesn't want. We don't cut important programs, but we cut the Pentagon to 3/4 last year's budget. We look carefully at every nation we give money too, and only hand out money that is good for long time US interests.

In other wards, we don't make silly statements such as, "We going to go back to 1990's budget". We have our elected officials actually do some work, do their jobs and cut where needed and leave alone those programs that keep us safe from unscrupulous corporations.
