Yet another Republican so-called "family values" politician resigns in disgrace over less than family value activity.
Rep. Lee Resigns Following Craigslist Scandal : Roll Call Rep. Chris Lee (N.Y.) resigned Wednesday in the wake of allegations that the married Republican pursued a date with a woman on Craigslist and sent her a revealing photo of himself. Lee’s resignation letter was read on the House floor, and he apologized for the scandal in a statement released by his office. “It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York,” Lee said in the statement. “I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness. “The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately,” he added. The Gawker website published on Wednesday a series of e-mails purportedly between Lee and a woman he met on Craigslist to set up a date. Gawker also posted a photo that Lee had taken of himself shirtless. Lee’s spokesman told Gawker that the lawmaker’s account had been hacked. “The only time he or his wife posted something online was to sell old furniture when they changed the apartment they keep in D.C.,” the spokesman told Gawker. A spokesman for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) declined to comment. “We don’t discuss conversations the Speaker has with Members,” spokesman Michael Steel said. Lee’s resignation is the latest in a series of problems that have beset the new House GOP majority since it took control last month. |

Too funny. The hypocrisy just gets thicker and thicker.
When will Republicans come to understand that we are human beings, and we act like human beings? The most famous speech Bill Clinton never gave: "Members of Congress, people of America, I banged her. Banged her like a cheap gong. Which is not news, folks, because Monica never played the flute solo in my libidinal orchestra. The only babes in D.C. I haven't tried to diddle are Hillary, Albright, and Shalala, mostly because they're evil and have legs that look like they came off a Bosendorfer 16-foot concert grand. Which isn't to say I don't appreciate Hillary. I do. If not for the ice-water coursing through her veins, I'd be pumping gas into farm equipment in Hope, Arkansas, and she'd be married to the President. So, let me set the record straight. I dodged the draft, hid FBI files, smoked dope, flipped Whitewater property, set up a new Korean wing in the White House, fired the travel staff, paid hush money to Webster, sold the Lincoln bedroom like an upscale Motel 6, and made pocket pinball the game of choice in the Oval Office. Got it? Good. Six years ago, there was not a man, woman, or child who didn't know I was a 10th degree horndog. But, you elected Mr. Fellatio president, anyway, which turned out to be a good move on your part. Your other choice was Bush, an aging yuppie moron who thought he could bomb his way into the White House. Before him, it was Reagan who left office with the same Alzheimer's he came with. There was Carter before him who brought you a 17% prime interest rate, smiling the whole time, like the idiot savant he is. Nixon before that coined, but never really understood, the concept of "plausible deniability,' and got a one-way First Class ticket to San Clemente and several decent book deals. Johnson was an inbred power-mad war criminal. And John Kennedy, who took more than a few shake breaks himself behind closed doors, didn't hang around long enough for America to spot that curious atavistic inclination for beaver-wrestling shared by at least a dozen former residents of the White House. Which brings me back to me, and the point. Since I have been strumming the banjo here, government is doing more for less. The budget is balanced - first time since my sausage-mate, JFK, did a one gun salute to Marilyn, a fact the press didn't seem to notice, mostly because they weren't looking. Unemployment is so low today a blind felon can get ajob as a night-watchman. And, the stock market is higher than a D-student on a full gram of dummy-dust, and anyone with a degree from a junior college who can spell 'software' has enough money to ponder the annual maintenance cost of his boat, instead of where the next meal is coming from. Bottom line: I'm running a government here, not a dating school, and I've done it with my pecker showing. What I'm asking for is your support, not a date with your daughter, unless, of course, she's a babe with thin ankles, and then I'd like to discuss it. In the meantime, think about where you are today, what kind of life you're living, and before you get too interested in which way my dong points, ask yourselves this question... 'Just what was it you hired me to do?'" |

I just love how a conservative congressman resigns in disgrace and some of the conservative members of the Forum are trying to redirect the issue to liberals. I can just imagine what their response would have been if it had have been a Democratic congressman. I guess hypocrisy isn't restricted to members of Congress....

I can just imagine what their response would have been if it had have been a Democratic congressman. I guess hypocrisy isn't restricted to members of Congress.... Look at the responses from one of our more vocal libs here. If that's not verbal masturbation, nothing is. What the guy did was shameful, and he did the right thing by resigning. What else should we say? Should we say how, clearly, the Democratic party is the party of virtue and morality, and the Republican party should be abolished? See, the difference between intelligent people and liberals is that we see an issue for what it is, and we move on. Liberals, on the other hand, pen manifestos bemoaning the failings of an entire party based on the actions of a single individual. And, since clearly you're unable to surmise what the conservative reaction would've been, let me hold your hand and help you out: Had it been a Democratic Congressman, my reaction would've been exactly the same. It was shameful, and he did the proper thing in resigning... |

He ought to resign for just being stupid for using the Internet alone. It's common sense that the Internet was not designed for privacy no matter how many safeguards one places upon it. Heck, it was designed for the opposite purpose of privacy, namely linking people to the world. Yet, in divorce cases, I consistently see stray cat spouses opening an account on match.com and other dating sites, adultfriendfinder.com if they also like the 'swinging' lifestyle, etc. Then again, if the public representation is a phony one such as being a 'family values' person with any self-righteous streaks (I'm not sure how he presented himself on 'family values' issues as I have not researched him, although he is married) then it's a good thing that they get caught.

Because whether all of us can maintain high standards, we are all better off for the effort. What gives me the right to decide your standard of conduct? I prefer to dress to the left. Does that mean that therefore you must, too? That is the part I find disturbing. In another thread it is being discussed that Newt Gingrich is a candidate for president. This guy had mistresses, was totally unfaithful for 30 years, and when it was mentioned, Republicans said to stop picking on him. Yet here's a Republican cruising Craigslist for a hookup and he has to resign. Talk about double standards and hypocrisy! |

Public figures are better than us, and they usually get away with bad behavior. This guy isn't any different than thousands of other men and women except that he happens to have been a public figure. He's managed to get himself into the Eliot Spitzer, Bret Favre, Alex Rodriguez, John Edwards, etc. club and prove once again that no matter how many times you think that these knuckleheads can't get any more stupid....along comes another one. The only remotely remarkable thing about this incident is that he was trolling Craigslist....the SOB was apparently too damned cheap to buy a hooker, screw his secretary or "splurge" on a Cupid.com account. |

Pathetic? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. When Clinton got his BJ from Monica and I read the transcripts, she said Billy said, oh....it's been sooo long. I never judged Clinton for what he did, but I DID have a problem with him going on national TV and wagging his finer saying "I never had sex with that woman, Ms Lewinski".
That being said I don't give this guy a pass, just saying he is human, he erred, he is paying the price. BF deal. |
