Default Anonymous Attacks Websites On Behalf Of WikiLeaks
Anonymous Mastercard attack 'hits payments'

Web attacks on the Mastercard site have disrupted payments, the BBC has learnt.

The site is among several targeted by the Anonymous group of hackers, who have pledged to pursue firms that have withdrawn services from Wikileaks.

Mastercard, which stopped processing payments to the whistle-blowing site, said the attack had had "no impact" on people's ability to use their cards.

But the BBC has been contacted by a payment firm that said its customers had "a complete loss of service".

In particular, it said that an authentication service for online payments known as Mastercard's SecureCode, had been disrupted.

Other readers have also said that have had problems with online payments. The scale of the problems is still unclear.

Mastercard has not responded to the claims.

Earlier, Doyel Maitra of the firm, said: "Mastercard is experiencing heavy traffic on its external corporate website - Mastercard.com - but this remains accessible.

"We are working to restore normal speed of service. There is no impact whatsoever on Mastercard or Maestro cardholders' ability to use their cards for secure transactions."
False account

Anonymous, which claimed to have carried out the attack, is a loose-knit group of hacktivists, with links to the notorious message board 4chan.

It said that it has hit several targets, including the website of the prosecutors who are acting in a legal case against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

PayPal, which has stopped processing donations to Wikileaks, has also been targeted.

The firm said Wikileaks' account had violated its terms of services.

"On 27 November the State Department, the US government, basically wrote a letter [to Wikileaks] saying that [its] activities were deemed illegal in the United States," PayPal's Osama Bedier told the Le Web conference in France.

"And as a result our policy group had to make the decision of suspending their account.

"It's honestly, just pretty straight forward from our perspective and there's not much more to it than that," he said.

Other firms that have distanced themselves from the site have also been hit in the recent spate of attacks including the Swiss bank, PostFinance, which closed the account of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

The bank said Mr Assange had provided false information when opening his account. BBC News - Anonymous Mastercard attack 'hits payments'

I was wondering when this was going to happen. Just so we're clear, I support this group's action wholeheartedly. For anyone who is curious about Annonymous, I have provided the link below.

Hopefully, someone will "leak" the identity of this so called hacker, and he or she can see how funny they are in prison.

Matt

Edit: BTW, your link is broken.

No big deal, prison would be a cakewalk for someone as "brave" as he......

Perhaps MasterCard should "leak" all the information they have on WikiLeaks. Somebody is the POC on their merchant account....

I'd say the gloves are off at this point.

No entity; be it government or business, can be secure that Wikileaks will release nothing on them. An absolute, no holds barred attack should now be waged against them and their interests...

They have also launched attacks against paypal and the prosecutors office in sweden that is pursuing the "sex-crime" charges against Assange.

Yes. This is the worlds first information war (AFAIK), it is bloodless, and i absolutely am in agreement with attacking governments and corporations in this way. I think it is wonderful.

Good luck, I hear they're behind seven proxies.

They are mirrored on over 500 different sites (with more being added every day), and thousands of people all over the world have downloaded the torrent containing all the cables.

Nobody is prepared to deal with this, thankfully.

It is sort of humorous (and tragic, of course) to think of all the billions of dollars spent on weapons around the world - totally ineffective to deal with this new type of war.

But, of course, you'd be opposed to retaliation.

Say, if MasterCard posted all the particulars of the WikiLeaks accounts?

Correction. "Anonymous" is a loose affiliation of several hackers who are opposed to censorship wherever it derives and wherever it spreads. These people have been known to retaliate on bigger fish than this. They've gone after the ISP companies directly for their attempts at DDoS attacks against 4chan

Perhaps MasterCard should "leak" all the information they have on WikiLeaks. Somebody is the POC on their merchant account....

I doubt they have much in the way of anything that the authorities don't already have. They'd be wasting time at this point.

They have also launched attacks against paypal and the prosecutors office in sweden that is pursuing the "sex-crime" charges against Assange.

Andrew
Yep. I'm completely for it. The governments have stepped out of bounds for too long and they need to be taken down 10 or 20 pegs or until they get the picture. The people are sick of the lack of transparency.

So, is this criminal activity OK with you?
I'd hardly call it criminal since the government is attacking the 1st amendment directly with their own DDoS attacks.

How did MasterCard "bomb" anyone?
They haven't though if they wanted to get down and dirty, I'm sure they can send their own e-bombs across the net. Good luck dealing with the wrath from "Anonymous" though.

Andrew, you have problems......were you picked on as a child?
Here at USPO we seem to have a few members that like to (mentally, usuing plenty of imagination) right all wrongdoings in the world, real or imagined. Real protectors of the downtrodden little guy, the oppressed, or societies garbage. In this case they just love the idea of a malcontent leaking stolen classified info so long as it makes the US govt look bad.
On the other hand if someone hacked into their private email and stirred up shit with the content, why that would be different.

Because politicians don't have a reasonable expectation of privacy short peeing, pooping and sleeping?

I think any entity out there which has any information on Wikileaks should release it immediately. Clearly, Wikileaks has absolutely no regard for who it hurts. Therefore, they should not be afforded that consideration, either...
