Basic human nature is an obstacle to successful communism in any form, imo.
EXACTLY!!!

We are GREEDY, by nature ~ egoists, deLUXE ~ in it, for our OWN "glory!"

Okay. Communism is the natural consequence, of successive generations of Socialism. Which is why it's never existed on this planet. Not in Russia. Not in China. Nowhere. The term is thrown around irresponsibly and dishonestly, with absolutely no applicability. Usually by Right Wingers, in response to suggestions of anything that detours, however remotely, from Capitalism. A knee jerk reaction. It's not like a military coup, where the government alone is toppled, but where the prior economic format remains in place. Production is fundamentally and comprehensively overhauled, so as to no longer operate with profit (capital) as the objective. The idea is to account for human need. Not to foster competition, with it's inevitable minority advantage.

As for the actual mode of production, the productive potential of Capitalism is retained, on account of it's awesome potential to generate. Only the ideology is replaced. Hence why it cannot happen overnight, and the requirement for generational transmission. This interim period is Socialism, or crude Communism.

It can't work on anything less than a global level. Excepting Isolationism, a Communist state in a Capitalist world, would eventually be forced to accede to the demands of international Capitalism, with which it is incompatible. Thus, it is undermined, as Russia found out, post-1917. Socialism was as far as it got there. And only there.

Don't waste your time, hoping to crucify me over this post. I have no intention whatsoever of debating this here.

There are some things that only work when the grouping is relatively small, and generally homogeneous. Communism, tribalism, liberty, democracy, etc...

NO!
Diversity is our strength!
Every society greatly benefits when the population itself has absolutely nothing in common.

I call all kinds of things and people communist. It's one of my favorite words.

I don't care at all about the accuracy. I just love the word, and the power behind it.

My friends are designing an Iphone app game based around recycling, and I call it communist. It makes me laugh, and pisses them off, which is all that matters...

I hear liberals say this a lot.

Please explain why it has never been tried.. What it would take to implement this "real" Communism and how it would differ enough from past examples of Communism to remain viable..

?
Never been achieved.

Here's one.

Basically if I'm grasping them correctly........

They're saying that
1) Marx wanted communism to be adopted by an INDUSTRIALIZED society, with democratic institutions......and said that's the ONLY way it can be done.
2) all the countries that have 'tried' communism have lacked one or both of those primary requirements.......thus it's not a valid test
3) Eliminating the government is also required.....and other nations didn't do that.

Thus.... communism hasn't been 'tried' the way it was meant to be..........

I mean it WOULD work....if only it was done correctly.

Or some such shit.
Sounds more like Anarcho-syndicalism than Communism.

Anything less than that, and economics wouldn't support it, globally. An agrarian economy, for example, allows for nothing beyond subsistence.
