IOC medical commission chairman, Arne Ljungqvist, has denied any potential doping violations by the Chinese swimming team. The comment comes after 16-year old Chinese swimmer Ye Shiwen’s victory was called into question by a top US coach. John Leonard, the executive director of the World Swimming Coaches Association, called Ye’s time in the freestyle leg, where she swam as fast as men’s winner Ryan Lochte, "impossible." Ye however, has tested clean, passing the comprehensive anti-drug testing at this year’s games. Arne Ljungqvist, Chairman of IOC Medical Commission, said, "You ask me specifically about this particular swimming (event), I say no I haven’t personally any reason to other than applaud what has happened until I have further facts if so." |

Lord Moynihan - Doping speculation is regrettable The Chairman of the British Olympic Authority says speculation surrounding Chinese gold medalist Ye Shiwen is "regrettable". Lord Moynihan hit out this morning at those who had raised suspicions about Ye Shiwen, the 16-year-old Chinese swimmer who broke the world record in winning the 400m individual medley on Saturday in a time of 4:28.43, taking more than a second off Stephanie Rice’s Olympic record. ![]() He pointed out she had been passed as clean by the World Anti-Doping Agency. "We know how on top of the game Wada are and Wada have passed her as clean. That's the end of the story." "And it is regrettable there is so much speculation out there. I don't like it. I think it is wrong. That athlete or, indeed, any athlete that has never tested positive is an athlete who should be supported by her federation and, indeed, everybody in the Olympic movement," he said. "Let us recognise that there is an extraordinary swimmer out there who deserves the recognition of her talent in these Games." I've been watching Synchronized Diving these 2 days and tonight.
In fact, I've been watching diving all these years, besides archery. I'll really like to know HOW the Chinese divers are always so well executed and so well synchronized that no country can catch them all these years, the consistency and par excellence the divers exhibited. Yet, any competitors in other country know that the Gold is beyond their reach, and they still take their sport so diligently, going for the Silver or Bronze. Synchronized diving, where you need to partner with another, is an EXTREMELY TOUGH sport to excel in, yet the Chinese keep mesmerizing everyone watching their dives. Incredible Chinese!! |
