Of the seven mega-states, California, New York and Illinois appear lost to the GOP. Pennsylvania has not gone Republican since 1988. Ohio and Florida, both crucial, are now swing states. Whites have become a minority in Texas. When Texas goes, America goes. This year could be the last hurrah.
http://www.creators.com/opinion/pat-buchanan.html Pat's thesis is a good one.. It's worth your time to read. What does it hinge on? Demographics.. |

No.. It died with spoiled, insular cowards like GHWB. It's time to put that bulltit political party in the grave next to the Whigs, where they originated. |

The best thing for America would be for the GOP to die a well deserved death and to be replaced by a party that more honestly works on behalf of the middle-class people while there still is a middle-class.
The DNC can take care of the poor and the rich can take care of themselves. As the middle-class shrinks so does the GOP's base. The rich play both sides because they can afford to do so and because they don't care who wins as long as the politician is in their hip pocket. The rich get richer. The poor get poorer. And the middle-class gets squeezed and sucked dry. It's the structure of Devil City that is the problem. Let the GOP show it's worth by shrinking the size of that structure which is sapping the strength of the middle-class through regulation and free trade(job outsourcing). Or just shut up and wither away. |

Do you idiots know anything about history? The founder of the Republican Party left it. The Republican Party occupied the South after the Civil War and agreed to remove it's troops when they wanted to elect Hayes as President. They're a den of thieves. They ran against corruption for years, but it was the Republicans doing the corruption. They put Harding in office to steal the Strategic Petroleum Reserve after World War I. Harding mysteriously died in office, but since you people like conspiracy theories, show me another President besides Harding who was cremated. Abortion becomes an issue after Republican appointees to the Supreme Court make Roe v Wade the law of the land. Civil Rights becomes an issue after Republican unanimously vote for Civil Rights and then use a Southern Strategy by Nixon to court the South. For a hundred a fifty years our country has had to put up with Republicans who play people like FOOLS and make issues out of the problems they create to get their worthless asses elected to office. I'm not quite sure I understand the original question, "Is the GOP Dead, in the Long Run?" It's been dead for some time. It will stay that way unless resurrections from the dead are possible. |

The big takeaway from this article is.. And I haven't heard or seen anyone say this yet.. That Pat is WRONG.
The GOP and Republican brands will be fine.. They can weather anything. They'll just change into a mirror image of the democrats. They can do it overnight.. No problem! Now the Conservative ideology is something else entirely.. It can't abide this and it will die. Then we'll all be socialists in some form.. Or at least we'll be represented by them. |
