There's no "Myth" about it..
It's a huge myth. You should read the article about prisons costing more in Florida thanks to privatization. Our private health care system is why ours is the most expensive in the world, and doesn't even serve everyone. That's a fact. You can bitch and throw up smoke, but it's a fact that we pay much, much more for health care than any other country in the world. The WHO proved it in their studies; numerous universities have proved it. If you privatize all that shit on the list, you can be 100 percent guaranteed that either taxes will go up or deficit spending will go up, or a combination of the two.

And unions are a separate issue. There could still be unions under privatization, and they should be dealt with fairly. Good unions help workers get paid what they're worth. I agree unions should not be allowed to gouge, but their existence is a good thing overall.

I'm not interested in your biased, liberal TV programs either.
You're not interested in the truth. If you were, you could watch the clips with an objective attitude and judge them based on their ideas, not by a simplistic "liberal" label. That's one of the extreme right's favorite cop-outs. Don't evaluate the ideas based on their merit, just slap an easy label like "liberal" or "socialist" (often incorrectly) in order to dismiss it. It's a lazy way to debate, but sometimes it works because people often shut off their brains as soon as they hear those words.

I grow weary of angry parasites grumbling about the thriftiness of their host..
Actually, I'm grateful for your running this site, but the fact that you pay the bills for it does not obligate me to agree with you. It would be pretty boring if every post I wrote just said, "I agree with you, J Hoffa." I try to do a good job getting my views across based on what they really are, not what I think will make others happy.

That's the huge myth we need to overcome. Our National Park Service is doing a great job, way better than some corporate CEO who wants to suck down every profit he can would. We've privatized many of our prisons, and it's been a disaster. It's more expensive than having the government do it, and they have a financial incentive for as many prisoners as possible. Most privatization is just an excuse for corporate welfare. Companies want to suck on the government tit for as much profit as possible, and we the taxpayer end up paying more that we would have otherwise. If you think we were hosed by the bank bailouts, just wait till we privatize all that stuff. It means higher taxes and more corruption and the little guy getting screwed even more than he already is.
It won't cost more. That's a ridiculous assertion. The "costs" he is talking about are bloated union workers losing their jobs. Then they make some crazy leap that those workers will all be on welfare and food stamps, and then small businesses won't have the customer base, and will shut down, and then more people will be on the tit, and so on and so on...

It's typical union fear tactics. And it is absurd, by any criteria.

No. Unions never get people paid "what they're worth". Unions monopolize the supply of labor, and by doing so, they manage to get a small group of "favored persons" more than they are worth, and create increased unemployment and higher prices for everybody else.

That's what unions do. Period. Unions benefit union members, and hurt everyone else.

Our healthcare system is the most expensive in the world because it offers the highest quality in the world, and doesn't ration.

Comparing the price of a Porsche to the price of a Chevy is asinine. There is no comparison.

And yes, all of those nations who supposedly offer healthcare to everyone, also deny care to everyone. They ration. They make people wait, and they kill people by withholding care.

And, if you can find me a study that shows that private prisons are more expensive, post a link.

Because I am actually reading the article you cited, and a few more, and I am seeing major spin. They're all admitting that public institutions cost more, and making excuses for it.

You have to read past the headlines, and between the lines.

Save it..

What Jeshu said.

There's no way it will cost more. THAT is the myth..

But even if it seemed to at first glance? What about legacy costs? The pensions and the benefits that aren't on the books today, but accrue over time? What about performance? What about accountability? What about awarding the contract to another company and forcing them to compete?

And unions are a separate issue. There could still be unions under privatization, and they should be dealt with fairly. LOL YEAH.. They'd get fair treatment alright.. They'd cost their company the contract when it came up for renewal if they weren't very careful.

I like that idea..
Good unions help workers get paid what they're worth. I agree unions should not be allowed to gouge, but their existence is a good thing overall. That's a load of shit too.. By definition, companies pay workers "what they are worth" to retain them... Or else they wouldn't be working there, right?

What unions do is extort.. They exist as parasitic entities..
You're not interested in the truth. LOL!

I can dismiss your ideas out of hand based on just a hand full of criteria.. It's completely fair and I am correct.

In this case, it's Market Forces VS Parasite Labor.. The Market is going to win that one hands down.

Because I am actually reading the article you cited... I'm at work.. May look it over when I get home..

But, generally speaking, No Market Controls = Costs DON'T GET CONTROLLED AT ALL..

So, it will probably be a waste of time to even read it.. I may give it a look just so I can criticize it later.

Also: People often think of privatization only as tax dollars going to private companies, instead of to government workers. That's what pinches their ass so much.

But, privatization can mean actual privatization, too. No tax money involved. that's inefficient, in the first place. Eliminate the middleman.

Nowhere, in that article, or in any of the others I've read, does it actually show that private prisons are more expensive.

And even if it did, it wouldn't be surprising, because you're often dealing with a monopoly situation.

Prison corporations should bid against each other for the contracts, or the inmates, whatever.

I TRUST MY LIFE TO MOTOR VEHICLES DESIGNED

AND PRODUCED IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR EVERY DAY....

AND HAVE DONE SO FOR MOST OF HALF A CENTURY....

AND UNTOLD MILES OF ALL KINDS OF DRIVING.

I HAVE NEVER HAD A MOTOR VEHICLE

"GO OUT OF CONTROL".
MOST OF MY VEHICLES WERE MADE PRIOR TO 1970....

The government handles all these services very efficiently.
Evidently your drug dealer is "privatized" because you seem to be getting high with no problem at all. No way would a sober person make that comment.

If you were correct we, would have the least expensive health care in the world. But we don't. We have the most expensive. That's a verifiable fact. It happens because they have to make a profit that gets paid to stockholders. In a public insurance system, they just have to stay in the black. They don't have to send money to stockholders. They can use the money they bring in on services, not profits paid to stockholders who don't do the work.

I can dismiss your ideas out of hand based on just a hand full of criteria.. It's completely fair and I am correct.
You've dismissed the Young Turks ideas without even viewing the videos. There's no way you could have fairly weighed the case they made without even watching.

You don't have to agree with me.. It's not a requirement.

However, be advised that I have opinions too and I don't hesitate to express them..

I agree with you that Lowes is great. I shop their too. However, I don't want them in charge of our fire departments. A fire department has to be able to respond to a fire at anyone's home, regardless of whether the owner has any money to pay for the service. For services that must be available to everyone, it's better to let the government handle it. We don't need to provide everyone with riding lawn mowers, power drills, dish washers, etc. The private sector works great for those things.
