If the democrats weren't so fucking stupid, and just steadfastly dedicated to tilting at windmills (both literal and proverbial) they could run this country for another 50 years.. and consign the Republicans to the political rumble seat..

Exxon paid one of their retiring executives 100 million dollars..

One executive..

Can you imagine the shit the Democrats could do with the revenues from a company like this?

They could even tie it to debt reduction and fuck the Republicans on THAT ISSUE as well.. They could use to finance national healthcare.. They could do anything they wanted.

But they're steadfastly opposed to oil.. They just hate it.

This is a real blind spot when you're talking about the accumulation and maintenance of political power..

Personally, I suspect many of them are funded by the same "dirty" industries they decry..

They seem incredibly well funded for one thing.. For another, commodity prices (largely.. There's a speculation factor here too) turn on supply and demand.

They have an incentive to restrict supply.. It's like everything else.. How much would owning a Casino be worth if everyone could do it?

If they're not trying to use environmental issues to erect entry barriers and curtail production to keep prices high, it's just because they haven't though of it yet.. And I doubt that's the case.

You're talking about a bunch of people who would gladly kick off a war to enhance their interests.. They wouldn't give tossing money at ELF a second thought.

Big Oil has a monopoly on motor fuel which Henry Ford tried to prevent with the early Model T's.
THEY will set the price to whatever THEY want.
Barry has no control over the price.
That's not entirely true. Diesel engines will run on peanut as well as a number of other vegetable oils. Making your own biodiesel from waste oil is quite easy. You run into a problem though when the feds decide to prosecute you for not paying your "fair share" of fuel taxes.

Another selling point.. It's complete bullshit, but Obama's base would eat it up..

"No more wars for oil!"

Because they're convinced that EVERY war is for oil.. When, in truth, some are for other reasons.. Oil never hurts though!

Anyway.. They'd hail him as the second coming..

He could treat issues like CAFE standards as "safeguarding our energy independence! That's your children's oil too!!"

What a win.. The R's would be licking their asses all the way back home..

The problem they'd have is.. There's really no good reason not to do this except that it puts far too much power and control in DC.. Which has never stopped anybody from getting away with anything in my lifetime.

Being ill advised seems to be a political prerequisite.

Another excuse to nationalize...

You know, all of the Middle Eastern nations that nationalized perceived that they were getting fucked. And they likely were...

Ya.. Chavez too.

I mean, IT IS their oil.. He wanted a little more profit for the state, and the oil execs balked.. Then he grabbed their shit.

Difficult to blame someone when it's their resource to begin with. If they want to just leave the shit in the ground for a million years, who is anyone to complain about that?

You could make the case that extraction would be cleaner, because there would be less incentive to take risks that could result in an accident/spill...

Yeah.. It would be properly supervised.

lol! Well, allegedly anyway..

Truth is, it'd be about as well run as the TSA.. But you don't peddle it that way.

And think of the union jobs? OMG..

Yes but after 2012 when the Republicans take back our White House the tree huggers will be sent to stand in the corner with a dunce cap on where they belong. Obama and his "no go" on the Keystone Project is to date one of his top bonehead moves.

It's a dickhead move if they invite a company in and after the well is producing they steal it, though.

But, that being said, I'm sure they were getting fucked six ways to Sunday...

Don't be crazy.

First, it's unlikely a Republican will take the Presidency.

But, secondly, Bush and a fully Republican Congress couldn't get anything done on this issue, so there is no reason to believe anything will happen now...

Yeah.. But he was a new government, and you know.. He claimed they were getting fucked by the old deal.

Maybe they were? I dunno.. But this is why oil and politics must remain tied at the hip. It's about infrastructure and development, and then getting the profit back at the end of the process.
