I heard of him when he first started out in Sacramento back in the 80's. I use to refer to him as Lush Gumbagh. I didn't get his schtick and didn't care much for him at first. Then I started hearing stuff like how he use to "Abort" callers and play a vacuum sucking sound... announce the time as being " it's 11 o'clock, time for welfare recipients to get up!"... so on and so forth... then I started to understand it was a joke.

Bill Maher is not putting on a persona. Bill is just arrogant sharing his hate, spite and intolerance for others and religion. I find nothing entertaining about that at all.
