I don't want to oppress them.. I do want a bit more competition and lower capital requirements to join their club.

It boggles the mind to see a shitbag company like GE peddling "news" that benefits them financially.. Without so much as blinking an eye.

It's disgusting to witness such a conflict of interest.
I'd expect that, at this point, the only way to rein them in would be to boycott them. As a tool of the state, they'll be sanctioned, whatever their outrages.

They really are fucking insects. Parasites. Fit only to grovel.

I believe that Wrath hit on something the other day, about the next phase of capitalism. I have been thinking about this idea since seeing that post, trying to formulate an argument.

I don't yet have the pieces together enough to make a statement, but there is a kernel of something there that is nagging at me like an old wound...
Same.

It's a feeling one gets in the gut. I can't verbalise it as yet.

True..

We're trapped in a feedback loop where capital formation = more consolidation, which = more political power, which = more capital formation... Which leads to even more consolidation.. and more power.. Etc.

It's now to the point where they can create news on the fly.. Regardless of anything.

Foreigners must be very confused by this.. and think we take this seriously. Because, OMG! NEWS!

In reality it's just cheap kabuki... but it has a veneer of legitimacy, especially to those who are unfamiliar with the issues..

Could be. There's certainly a trend that's catching on. If trend is the right word.

I agree. And it's those ignorant masses that serve as these bastards' target audience. With no ability or background information to compare against, they're unwitting victims.

No, I stand by my statement. They need to be brought to heel. They're the very embodiment of those forces that seek to undermine a citizenry's rights. And they do so with soft power, so it's insidious. The average guy doesn't stand a chance. Between a hostile government and a media construct determined to subvert him, he'll fall. They appeal to our finer instincts, whilst using them against us.

BROADCAST MEDIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN HIGHLY
REGULATED... FCC, "DECENCY" COPS, ETC...

THEN F. ROOSEVLET REALLY TOOK IT OVER.

WE USED TO HAVE A STRONG PRINT MEDIA WHERE

NEWS AND OPINION FROM MANY SOURCES WAS PRESENTED

WITH ALL MANNER OF INFLEXION.

THAT'S ALL PRETTY WELL GONE... AND ONE NEWPAPER

IS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AS ANY OTHER....
GELDED AND HOMOGENIZED.... 90% ADVERTS

AND 10% DENATURED PAP.

WHO READS THEM ANYWAY?

AND HOW MANY OF THOSE READERS ARE EQUIPPED

TO ASSESS WHAT LITTLE NEWS IS PRESENTED... OR

EVEN TO DISCERN FACTUAL NEWS FROM OPINION AND

SPECULATION.... AND FLAT-OUT BULLSHIT?

I turned my TV off over a decade ago because of this bullshit..

I read the papers. They're still somewhat honest. Or at least less dishonest.

Public apathy and disinterest is universal. The only way to get them to move is to starve them. Governments know this. Which means they'll be fed, no matter the cost. A full stomach is a surety against questions.

Like yourself, I can no listen to the nauseating shit they're putting putting out now. We're lucky here, in that the BBC is still, for the most part, funded by public subscriptions (via TV licensing). And even they've almost gone rogue. Fuck the engorged media monster.

As an example, take 9/11...

Did the 9/11 Commission put the issue to rest? No! It's fraught with unexplained phenomena, disallowed testimony, etc...

The media put it to rest. They said it was all figured out, so the public decided it was all figured out.

Now, I don't know what the truth of 9/11 is, but it has never been investigated and explained completely to my satisfaction, and I believe a truly free media would have noticed and reported that as such...

For well over a decade, the best source of American news has been the Guardian. That is a very sad thing, that I have to rely on foreigners to bring me anything close to resembling unfiltered American news.

The Brit media amazes me.. They cover US issues than our domestic media.. With probably half the resources, and an ocean between their headquarters and the issues at hand!

I'll never believe it was a conspiracy. But I think they don't want people looking into it, for fear of deciding that the WOT isn't warranted.

THE BEST OF BROADCAST MEDIA NEWS WAS DERIVED FROM

THE EXISTING PRINT MEDIA SHOPS... AS PRINT MEDIA

HOMOGENIZES AND SHRINKS, THERE IS NO LONGER A SOURCE

OF NEWSMEN/ JOURNALISTS.... ONLY SHORT SUBJECT PRESENTERS.

A MOTORMOUTH AND PERKY TITS WILL GET YOU A GOOD GIG

IN TV NEWS.

A NOSE FOR NEWS AND A GOOD ANALYTICAL MIND WILL NOT.

The fate of WTC 7 is very strange.. As is their reaction.

And the immediate attempt to launch on Saddam over it.. Alluding to Iraqi involvement.

I wouldn't have questioned it at all.. Except for that one building, and our completely wild reaction.

I DON'T HEAR MUCH CHATTER ABOUT WHAT THE GOVERNMENT

IS ACTUALLY DOING... AND PROPOSING TO DO.

I HEAR A LOT OF TRIVIAL CHATTER ABOUT POLITICAL PARTIES

AND THEIR ENDLESS SPATS.
