Mitt won The Washington Times/CPAC Presidential Straw Poll on Saturday, and also nipped Rick Santorum as the top choice of conservatives nationwide, according to a new version of the poll conducted for the first time this year that suggests Mr. retains strong support among self-identified conservatives. Mr. won 38 percent of the straw poll. Source: Washington Times |

I read a story yesterday that hinted at a brokered convention with Jeb Bush being a surprise nominee. They need Jebbie to finish up some of the loose ends laying around.. What they don't know is it will destroy the party. It will literally be the end. Nobody is going to support this.. They may as well just hand Obama another 4 years. |

I think it will be a brokered convention if it looks like it's going against the establishment.
Delegates decide the nominee, not the straw polls. From some of what I've read, although Ron Paul is losing all the caucus and primaries, he appears to be gaining delegates favorable to him. If so, the convention should prove both interesting and enlightening. And like J-hoff said, it could be the death knell of the establishment GOP if Obama wins in the face of certain defeat. |

I think it will be a brokered convention if it looks like it's going against the establishment. Well, that's a real problem.. But it gets much larger if they pick someone from outside the current field.
Bring in an outsider, and that's it.. People are going to say their votes don't matter.. That the whole thing is rigged.. And they'll be right. |

I think it will be a brokered convention if it looks like it's going against the establishment. Well, in the first place, you and I don't agree that Obama faces certain defeat. I think he is the front-runner, versus any GOP candidate. |

Well, that's a real problem.. But it gets much larger if they pick someone from outside the current field. Going beyond the party, your vote doesn't count for the presidential election anyway. The Founders set it up so you don't get to decide. The Electors decide. If they didn't like the way the popular vote went and decided to put somebody else in, they could do so. You get to pick the Electors, but they aren't truly bound to follow the will of the people that elected them. We are not a democracy. We are a representative republic. |
