A contracted Police Force fascinates me. Of-course the public will complain because most people are crybabies and want everything for free. The service won't be the same. The cops will be paid less and will therefor provide less service and take less risk. It blows my mind when a child comes up missing and they spend a fortune looking for the kid. Draining ponds scouring the woods. WTF.... are we that stupid ?

GOVERNMENT ADMINISTERED POLICE, FIRE, AND REFUSE

COLLECTION SERVICES HAVE A LONG HISTORY OF

CORRUPTION.... AND BRUTAL RACISM.......

IN AMERICA.

THE PUBLIC PAYS EVERY CENT OF THE COST

OF ALL NON-VOLUNTEER SERVICE....

REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE SERVICE

PROVIDER IS DIRECTLY MANAGED BY ELECTED

OFFICIALS OR A PRIVATE VENDOR.

EITHER WAY, ELECTED OFFICIALS WOULD

ULTIMATELY OVERSEE THE SERVICES.

We all know what happens when that occurs.

Elected sheriff with a modest budget to check ambitions and a volunteer fire department run on donations and event proceeds.
The police are just a standing army for the MIC and paid fire fighters and police are a pension sinkhole.
Until there's an intruder in your home, or your house is burning down. lulz

And they typically do good work. Ours are funded through donations and property taxes. They are unpaid but the equipment is expensive and they need training.

They do just fine. They have to get a hell of a lot of donations to run the FD. They do a lot of dinners and stuff like that. My county is uber-conservative, but the next county over has bars in the fire departments and they are allowed to do raffles and other gambling stuff to raise money.

Meh. Seems to me that most houses that really go up in flames aren't salvageable anyway. And most times if an intruder is in your home whatever happens will be over before a policeman arrives. They're there to pick up the pieces.

The fire department is there to rescue and stop the spread. And the volunteer companies do that very well here. Not only every town, but nearly every small village here has it's own FD. My FD is less than 1000 feet from my house, and the two neighboring departments are within 5 miles in each direction.

All of our Fire Police are volunteer, as well. They get up in the middle of the night or leave work in the middle of the day to go help out, direct traffic, etc.

We also have volunteer EMT's that ride along in the ambulances...

When a home gets a small fire and that part of the house is the utility room or some other central plumbing hub area... and the wet walls and floors lend to mold development...

...we're all better off just having part of or all of the home thoroughgoodly rebuilt.

Also most women would like to try bigger boobs for a day and then have the option of returning them if things don't improve.

Do not mistake me. I'm not insulting those fine fellows. Not a bit. Firemen are heroes, and have my utter respect.

I do have reservations about volunteer services, but they're based on the assumption that someone who isn't getting paid, may not feel the need to go that extra mile. Which, in the context of the emergency services, could mean the difference between life and death. I know I'd think twice about leaving my warm bed, and venturing out into a freezing wintery morning, were there not the inducement of pecuniary reward. Of course, that's supposing I hadn't made such a weighty commitment to begin with.

Here too.
I appreciate and admire the volunteer in my town and donate generously to the volunteer fire department.

VFDS ARE COMMON IN THIS REGION AND

MUCH-APPRECIATED.

THEY TRAIN DILIGENTLY.... ACQUIRE AND MAINTAIN

EQUIPMENT.... AND THEY SEEM TO INTERFACE WELL WITH

"REGULAR" POLICE, FIRE, EMT, AND OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT

AND EMERGENCY SERVICES AGENCIES.

SMALL FIRES IN THIS AREA CAN GROW TO HUGE

WILDFIRES IN LESS THAN AN HOUR'S TIME.

TODAY, THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY IS NEAR O% AND

THE WIND IS GUSTING 35-55 MPH. BLOWING DUST HAS

REDUCED VISIBILITY TO ABOUT 1/2 MILE...LESS

IN SOME AREAS.

A SMALL GRASS FIRE CAN ERUPT INTO A CONFLAGRATION

AND RACE FOR MILES UNDER THESE CONDITIONS.

THE DUST PREVENTS SEEING SMOKE AT A DISTANCE.

SO FAR, I DON'T SMELL SMOKE. THE WIND IS

LIKELY TO BRING DOWN A POWER LINE SOMEWHERE...

AND THAT MAY WELL SPARK A FIRE IN SOME REMOTE AREA.

ANY IGNITION EVENT CAN BRING WIDESPREAD DISASTER...

REGARDLESS OF WHO MANAGES EMERGENCY SERVICES.
