That is why people can't afford insurance and health care.. These costs have been de-linked from the market forces that set rates of pay for other occupations, like pest control guys and crack dealers.
Exactly. Market forces don't say pay $60 for an aspirin, the hospital does.

Yeah, and nobody wants to see people without care, or see doctors go broke.. But the forces that keep this all in check have been destroyed.. and the only answer we seem to hear is just "More money!" which will only further exacerbate the problem.

It's like turning gravity off.. Shit goes nuts and you can't control it!

That's what we've got here.. And nationalizing it won't help either.

We need these forces back in play... I don't know why people refuse to see this.

The hospital does (in part, IMO), because it costs them 60 bucks to get that aspirin to you.

.01 for the pill.

20 bucks for the guy putting the pill in a plastic cup.

20 bucks for the nurse to hand it to you.

19.99 for the union janitors to clean up after the nurse.

I read, can't remember where, that the profits of big pharma are more than the entire fortune 500 combined. That's where Jesus is going

That too.

Plus insurance costs due to fuck up law suits......

It's surprising the cost isn't higher really, than 60 bucks for that pill.

I used to pay insurance claims and the hospital would bill like $20k and would get like 3k from the insurance company. It is legal racketeering, especially with IPA/PHOs.

What happened to Dr. No?

I figured we'd either get a spirited defense of the status quo, or suggestions on how to fix this fucking mess..

?

I can answer that.

Dr.'s aren't held to the same standards other trades are.

For example....if you take your car in to be fixed......and they don't fix it.......you don't pay them. If they fuck it up, you don't pay them till it's right. With doctors, they refuse to stand behind their work.

An electrician can be licensed and on their own, in 4-6 years. They'll be 100% responsible for their work. They have to be. No one would think twice about running them off the job, or refusing to pay them, if they fuck up.

Doctors, 12+ years of training.....and they don't accept ANY responsibility for their work. They'll say, "well, everyone's a little different, but what I did SHOULD have worked", and we buy it. We praise them in their failures.

Thus, they only half pay attention sometimes (too often), and make huge errors.

Because they're not used to having to guarantee their work.

Like a meteorologist.

There are some great doctors out there and they all go through hell with the rigorous training and non-stop competition, but I have run into some that I wonder how the hell they got through medical school. One pissed me off so bad (my niece's doctor), I had to bring him down a notch and questioned the biochemistry behind his treatment plan. LOL, it was classic.

Well, it's a specialty field...far outside the AOE of most of us.

I've seen people's eyes glass over, and cross when I've explained electrical things to them. And most people have SOME understanding of electrical work. (I hope anyway)

Docs are different....there's no 'common sense' checks by normal people.

That's true. I was always fortunate my mother was an RN and a director of nursing and knew her shit. People need to question their doctor and not treat them like gods.

The entire process of becoming a doctor is corrupt. They use licensing and schooling requirements to keep physicians rare and prices high.
