IMO, events in the region can't be good for Israel.

Egypt in particular.

As we know, they share a border with Palestine. They've had issues here over the years. Ranging from weapons smuggling to tunnels being used as lifelines for humanitarian aid.

Mubarak was a puppet. He policed the border closely and even went to the point of driving steel plates into the ground to thwart smuggling.

Now he's gone.. and we helped him out the door.

In fact, we're doing QUITE A BIT in that regard. (See THIS, for one example)

Now I read a report that Hamas (allegedly) is increasing rocket fire on Israel..

These rockets aren't particularly dangerous, and they're planning to deal with it, but that's not the point.. The point is that they could be dangerous. Anything could come across an unsecured border. Given the nature of things, this is (potentially) a very serious security issue for Israel.

SO.. What is going to happen?

1) Nothing.. Egypt continues to police the border faithfully. (IMO. Doubtful in a truly democratic Egypt. The urge to at least help their brothers with aid and supplies will be too powerful to resist. It will eventually lead to other material crossing as well.)

2) Israel will use the opening to attempt to drive the Palestinians out, across the border and into Egypt.. and will then attempt to secure the border themselves. (IMO, likely)

3) Israel will attempt to invade Egypt. (Doubtful.. but possible.)
