People write their signs in English because English is the universal language. Seems pretty simple to me.

Additionally, Arabic is the "official" language of Egypt.. But the CIA claims English and French are also common and widely understood.

I read once that English (Was, at least) the most common language for foreigners to learn.
Of course it is. Half the world was part of the British Empire at one time. There are one billion people in India who all speak English. English is taught as a second language in most of the countries of the world because it's the lingua franca, the language of commerce. All airline pilots and air traffic controllers have to speak English. Egypt was once part of the British Empire, so it's understandable that many people there speak English.

Admittedly, I got this from Mike Savage. But it's an interesting point.
Do Egyptians routinely use English in their day to day communication?? Why are there so many signs written in clear English protesting the Mubarak government???
Who are they directing their complaints to?
What did you expect? Hieroglyphs?

I don't care what they speak. Did you ever hear a mad Latino woman bitching about the rent? When people are pissed they always revert back to their roots. But not in Egypt apparently.

At least a couple of scary cats, a snake, and a pharoh's head.
