Good as usual.
But specious reasoning in parts - particularly the claim that royal patronage of a priestly class and monks owes to their potential for as a means to prevention/peaceful resolution of internal conflicts.

That felt like he skipped his own warning against simplification in understanding history.
Perhaps I must read Kosambi to see , how that argument is backed up.

Anyway, his point about having to see history in a wider context, particularly with an understanding of times of the events under discussion, is well made.
