This article IMHO is aimed at having the confused, heartbleeding us find a way to lock this issue up once and for all, so it doesn't keep pestering our conscience.

It is silly to take Arundati Roy as a representative of the Westernized media and their view of India. She spends half her time proteseting against the very same media!!

Yes, there is no condoning Maoist violence, but what exactly is the மக்கள் ஒன்றுபட்டு எதிர்த்தால் that Jeyamohan is talking about??

Here is an excerpt from Arundati's excellent article: Walking with the Comrades, published earlier this year. Here is a link to the pdf doc.

I feel I ought to say something at this point. About the futility of violence, about the unacceptability of summary executions. But what should I suggest they do? Go to court? Do a dharna in Jantar Mantar, New Delhi? A rally? A relay hunger strike? It sounds ridiculous.

The promoters of the New Economic Policy —who find it so easy to say “There Is No Alternative” —should be asked to suggest an alternative Resistance Policy. A specific one, to these specific people, in this specific forest. Here. Now. Which party should they vote for?

Which democratic institution in this country should they approach? Which door did the Narmada Bachao Andolan not knock on during the years and years it fought against Big Dams on the Narmada?
