I did some research on the dumb Kickstarter picture:

Brian Banks, which is now FUNDED, was a documentary on his life:

The perks are the regular movie perks (a tshirt with the movie, the film, etc etc).

Anita Sarkeesian is doing a documentary on Tropes vs. Women in video games:

The perks involve digital downloads of the video series.

I'd rather back Sarkeesian's project. It sounds waaaay more interesting.
There was no reason to way overfund Sarkeesian's project.

People just wanted to make a statement.

I actually think that Banks issue is the more relevant one (although I also would probably rather watch Sarkessian's, but it is worth ~10k not >100k.).

My point is that people hear about something, and then say 'I want to make a statement there too...'.

Economists should study this!
