Judging by my brief subbing experience, most middle-schoolers will gladly tear each other apart like starving dingos--without mercy, decency or remorse--but generally still want to be the teacher's friend. In high school it was usually the other way around. Which was why I loved my middle-schoolers. Every other day or so I had to report a child sobbing his eyes out in the bathroom/hallway during class, but they were nice to me. Put your foot down first class and most of that stops. I've yet to toss anyone.
